Ivory:
There’s a gap. Inside of me, between the person I am at the shelter and the person I am when I’m alone. Sometimes I feel that gap, staring at me.
But when Derek looks at me like he wants to eat me whole, that’s the only thing I can see. The gap closes for a moment.
He offers nothing more than the idea of a happy home, but I’m more than willing to take the illusion he provides over my reality any day.
The question that remains: where do you sleep when you’re playing house with a stranger?
Derek:
I’m not usually interested in putting in much work to get a girl. Girls are easy: easy to get, easy to let go. Except this one.
Something about Ivory makes me want to go out of my way to convince her to stay around longer.
Take her home? Done. Knock her up? Gladly. Wife her? Count me in.
But date her? Only if I have to.
Maybe I can make her a Mommy without abandoning the little game we play.
