It’s an oceanfront property with a concierge desk in the lobby and security.

I bring the car to a stop. He leans toward me.

I’m a bit misled by his move, and confused, not knowing what to expect, when he looks up.

“Let’s have a drink upstairs. The view is amazing up there,” he says, already shifting in his seat.

He climbs out while I linger, processing the information.

“What…?”

My voice dies out before I push out of my seat.

He takes the car key and shows me to the entrance. Again, no touching of any kind.

I don’t know how I feel about this new plan of his, but the friendly smile on the doorman’s lips puts me at ease.

He addresses Kai by his last name. I gather this isn’t some random place. And this wasn’t just some building we happened to drive by.

We walk across a marble-paved lobby with cozy, minimalist furniture, high ceilings, bright lights, and luxurious plants before traveling in a sleek elevator way up to the top floor.

Moments later, we enter a vast apartment.
