Summers spent in Fox Grove with my nana were always my sanctuary . . . until the one I spent with Eli Hargrove changed everything. Now, I live here in the home Nana left to me. My life is tangled up with Eli’s because of shared friends, and my heart is being put through the wringer watching him navigate the path of unexpected fatherhood. I can’t let the one man that I have spent so many years hating and hiding from be the only one who actually sees me . . . I need my walls firmly in place, allowing me to peek over at him when I choose to. I don’t want Eli to be able to dissolve them like they are merely the drip sandcastles we used to make at the beach. Watery, temporary, and unstable.

Becoming a single father overnight was never on my bingo card, and neither was having a second chance with Kendra Powell. All our friends just think we constantly push each other’s buttons and argue because we are oil and water . . . but the truth is she is the oxygen sparking the flames in my soul. The emotions she strikes light up so fast: intense, explosive, consuming. To others it seems like we can’t stand each other, but the reality is that I am burning for her. Have been for years, and I’m just now admitting the truth to myself, one that is becoming harder and harder to keep secret.
