“Tell me what you want. I’ll give you anything you want, sweetheart,” I confess.

“Come on me.” She shoves the slip up well past her hips, tosses the rose to the side, and shoves two fingers deep in her slick center.

I think I may pass out from how damn hot her demanding confidence is and the sight of what she’s doing to herself. Standing at her command, I stroke faster as her orgasm hits, making her body tense in pleasure. Hot ropes of cum shoot from me splashing across her stomach, pussy, her hand—fingers still buried deep inside of my lost paradise.

It’s the hottest thing I have ever experienced.

Kendra slips her fingers out, trailing them across the sticky cum on her skin, then holds them up to look at it. I kneel on the bed, hovering over her, grip her wrist possessively, and suck her fingers into my mouth tasting both of us on my tongue. I moan, craving more of her, wishing I could take it right from the source. Kendra bites her lip, obviously turned on, then pulls me down by the front of my shirt in a kiss that feels like a claiming of her own.

I’m weak.

Eli is my weakness.

His strong arms pull me closer in his sleep and I relax into him; his warmth and sandalwood soap lulling me back into a hazy comfort I should get up and run from but can’t escape.

I don’t want to escape.

Laying here with him in this moment feels easy, but this isn’t reality. That snake is waiting, hidden in the grass, ready to strike and sink its fangs deep, leaching poison into the small bubble of make-believe I have landed myself in.

“I can hear you thinking,” Eli grumps. “It woke me up.”

Laughing, I say, “I’m so sorry. You know you could have gone and napped in your own room, in your king-sized bed, Hulk.”

“You are not in that bed, so pass.” Eli kisses my temple, and I relax even further into him.

“Eli, what are we doing?” I sigh.

“We’re napping. Then we are going to go have dinner at my mom’s house—she’s making lasagna, your favorite broccoli salad, and Sarah’s in charge of dessert. I reallllly hope she makes her mini cheesecake donuts that are freaking bomb. You’ll love them. Then we will bring Wren home, do her nightly routine, and after, hopefully, make out on the couch.” Eli peppers kisses up my neck, which is so distracting, and nips my earlobe.

And that’s exactly what we do . . . because Eli is my weakness, and I can’t let the snake of my own making strike my heart yet.

“You’re really good at all this,” Easton says as we continue the demo on Kendra’s house with his small but efficient crew.

I try not to roll my eyes. “Yeah, I worked construction all through high school and college. Still do odd jobs here and there when people need help. I know my way around shit like this.” I drive my sledgehammer into the kitchen counter imagining Bennett’s face.

I bring the heavy tool down, driving its weight over and over, wood splintering from the old cupboard underneath, unsatisfactory damage for the fury stampeding through my system. Yelling out in rage, I toss the sledgehammer to the side, where nobody is standing, and whip my hard hat too.

“Hey, y’all take a lunch break,” Easton says to his guys, and they make a quick exit.

I wipe sweat off my face with the bottom of my shirt and feel a wave of embarrassment from having near strangers witness my meltdown.

“You alright, man?” Easton cautiously asks.

Rubbing the back of my stiff neck I ask, “Kendra told you?”

“Bare minimum. She said that she was attacked here the night of Rem and Lainey’s wedding and hasn’t been able to step foot in here since. Tried the first day I came here to see the house.” He chuckles. “Day I had the pleasure of meeting you for the first time.”

“Yeah sorry about that,” I grudgingly say.

“I get it, Kendra is special. But you don’t have anything to worry about. I have my own complicated life.” Easton takes a long drink from his water, his confidence wavering for the first time.
