CHAPTER

Vance

After Lily went intoher room, Brice and I just stood there silent for a moment before he asked me. “Do you really think Gustavo was hired to kill her?”

I shook my head. “I don't see why else a man of his profession would come in contact with her.”

“Okay but why not kill her when he had her in the boutique? Why let her go and slip out the back?”

Wondering that myself I told him. “Maybe he was testing out how closely we’re watching her. Besides, there were two sales associates running around in there, he would have had to kill them, too.”

“Yeah but for a man like him that's nothing. No, I get a bad feeling that he's playing with all of us.”

“Well...” Not able to get my next words out, Lily stormed out of her room, asking for the pictures of her family. After I brought them up on the screen, she took the laptop back into the room with her, a look of determination etched on her face.

When the door closed Brice turned to me. “She's a lot tougher than I ever gave her credit for. Not a lot of women, or men for that matter, would be showing the strength she is right now, trying to figure this out. Instead they would be in a state of panic, knowing someone was possibly trying to kill them.”

I looked back over at the closed door. “Yeah she's definitely one tough little lady, I hope she stays that way when this is all over.” A little while longer after we’d both made some calls, trying to set things up for when we got back home, we heard her let out a curse and decided to go check on her. After she gave us the rundown about what she remembered, I looked at my watch, finding that it was already after midnight. Knowing we had that possible client meeting at eight am tomorrow, I suggested that we all got a good night’s sleep.

In the morning, we all quickly showered, got ready, and gather up all our belongings before heading down to the

lobby to check out and on to the meeting we had scheduled with a club owner to run security for him. During the meeting Lily sat quietly between Brice and I deep in thought, not even noticing the looks she got from the men in the room. If I wasn't trying to get their account right now, I would be telling them fuck off and stop staring at our woman.

Our woman?

Yeah I'm thinking that's exactly who I hoped she would be at the end of this rat’s maze we were running through.

Once the meeting ended, we were on a plane and headed back to Texas, Lily sleeping the whole way. As we deplaned and

grabbed our bags, both Brice, and myself kept a constant eye on our surroundings for anything out of place, or anyone that

looked like Gustavo, knowing that he always worked alone. I for one knew that I wouldn't feel better until we got her back

to the ranch where the security we had installed years prior was as tight as Fort Knox. On the ride home Lily hadn’t said much, but Brice and I both did our best to check on her now and then without overwhelming her with pestering questions.

Walking in the front door, we were greeted by Mack. “Well there you kids are.” He smiled, coming out of the kitchen.

Lily lit up with a big smile and ran up to hug him. “Mack, I missed you.”

He hugged her back like the father she should have had in her life, instead of the one she had. “Missed you too, little lady.”

“Names Lily,” she winked.

He looked up at us then back to her in disbelief. “You got your memory back?”

She shook her head. “No, but Kelan was able to find a picture of me in the press with my ex-fiancé. It said who I was and who he and my family are.”

“Wow that's great! So then did you see them? Or are they coming here to meet up with you?”

Before she could answer, I spoke up. “Hey why don't you take your stuff on up to your room and grab a shower while Brice and I fill Mack in about everything.”

“All right.” Giving Mack a chaste kiss on the cheek, she grabbed her bag and headed up stairs.

“So am I to assume this is not good news?” He asked, moving back towards the kitchen as we both followed him, all of us

grabbing a beer.
