She tilted her head at him. “You’ve got something on your mind, Trent. Normally you’ve got no problem saying it. You seem to be struggling now though. Why is that?”

“Maybe it’s because this is a big thing. You were nervous about the party earlier and now I’m nervous that you’ll think I’m putting pressure on you. I’m not. Never that.”

“Then just say what you want to say,” she said softly. “It could be I’m waiting to hear it.”

“Because maybe you’re still a little trigger shy and it’s hard to get the words out?”

She hesitated a fraction, then quietly said, “Yes.”

“I love you, Roni. I think I might have been starting to feel it the day I ran into Eli.”

“We weren’t even dating,” she said.

“No. But I felt something for you.” He grabbed her hand and put it to his chest. “Right here. Deep inside. I felt it. That’s why I had the panic moment that I ruined what I knew could be a beautiful thing between us before we even had a chance to get started.”

“I might have been feeling things like that lately,” she said.

“Guess you aren’t going to say it,” he said. “So I will again. I love you, Roni. I love everything about you. From the way you look to the person you are. The one that gets so frustrated with their ex but still doesn’t want to say negative things about him because you want your son to love his father.”

“I think it’s the right thing to do,” she said.

“It is,” he said. “Just like I’ve done so much in my life based on what I think is the right thing. What I feel for you just feels right.”

Her hand was moving around his chest, over his heart and then slipping a button undone on his shirt and covering his chest. Skin to skin. His heart was racing and he knew she could feel it.

“I love you too, Trent. It feels right to me. I’m not sure when I started to feel it. Maybe watching you with Eli that day. I don’t know other than I’ve never let myself even think of being with another man and yet I was ready and willing to do it with you. I figured that had to mean something.”

“It means what we’ve got is perfect. It’s right for us. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

“Not even the Fierces who are going to say they told us they knew all along?” she asked.

“No one knows,” he said. “Don’t let them kid you. They have an idea and they hope. It’s working for them. But this is about us and only us.”

“It is,” she said. Her hand came out from his shirt and went to the button on his pants. “It’s about us and what I’m going to do to you tonight. The first of the year. The start of something more. I want it with you.”

“I want it with you too,” he said.

She undid his pants and he had no chance to stop her or say another word before she was on her knees right by the front door, his pants down and her mouth on his cock.

Her head was bobbing up and down, her hand moving the same.

“Roni,” he said.

“Shhh,” she said, the sound vibrating over his cock. Yeah, there wasn’t much more he could say or even think of at this moment and just let her do what she wanted to.

His eyes were shut because the sight of her doing that to him was more than he could handle at the moment without just coming in her mouth.

He didn’t want to do that, but he didn’t know how long he was going to be able to hold back either.

His hands went to her hair, his fingers threading through the strands and moving her up and down at a slower pace.

“Jesus,” he said when she started to suck. “Stop that.”

“No,” she said. “If it doesn’t feel good then what is the point?”

“It feels too good,” he said. “Which is why I want you to slow down.”

“I don’t think so,” she said and went right back to work.
