I took advantage of their distraction and crushed my fist into her eye. She stumbled sideways, and I jerked out of Vox’s hold, bolting toward the other side of the room. My fingers closed around a liquor bottle just as the demon gripped my arm.

He swung me around, and I used the momentum to smash the bottle into his head. Glass shattered, and he staggered onto the navy sectional, black blood streaming down his temple.

“You little bitch.” Danica charged me, her pink hair flying behind her.

Clawed fingers reached for me, but I grabbed a metal mixing cup from the bar and aimed it at her head. A metallic thunk reverberated, and vibrations traveled up my arm. Danica crashed onto the bed, grabbing the satin covers as she toppled to the ground.

My vision blurred around the edges as my pulse thundered in my ears. I swayed and hit the bar, rattling the glasses and bottles. A swarm of sensations engulfed me again, and I bit my tongue to choke back a whimper, tasting blood. The magical drug attempted to claw back through my senses and weaken me.

I couldnotlet that happen.

Something hard registered against my ankle, and a laugh almost burst out. I reached down to yank the dagger from my boot. How could I forget I’d brought it from Logan’s?

“Are you three still screwing around up here?” Another dux demon appeared, his blue eyes zeroing in on the knife in my hand. He chuckled. “What are you going to do with that, wolfy?”

A smile tipped my lips. “Come find out.”

He stood well over six feet tall with a green mohawk, piercings spotting one ear, and tattoos on his arms. The Black Sabbath t-shirt stretched over his broad frame and strained against his muscles. He wouldn’t go down easily.

“Careful, Mason.” Levi studied me as he and the newcomer marched in my direction. “She’s been dosed, but she’s fighting it. She knocked out Danica.”

Mason snorted. “I see Vox is in the corner pouting like a bitch.”

“She broke my horn,” he snarled.

Good. The creep deserved much more. Maybe he’d get it when I was done with these two. The drugs burned within my system, but so did the desire for violence. It settled on my tongue like a piece of sweet and sour candy.

I blinked hard to shove away the blurriness, and just as Mason pounced, I slipped to the left, so he crashed into the bar. I kicked out and slammed my foot into Levi’s face, blood spurting from his mouth.

Before I could regain my balance, strong arms wrapped around me.

“It’s time to stop being a bad girl, pretty shifter.” Mason heaved me off the ground and carried me through the room, my legs kicking the air. “You’re coming with me. The fight is over.”

I thrashed in his hold, trying to free my arm so I could turn the dagger into a sword and decapitate him. “Get off me!” My boot caught on a chair, and I swung it at Levi who’d shuffled in front of us.

“No can do.” Mason’s arms tightened, and it took all my concentration to keep my grip on the knife’s hilt.

Levi pulled open a door that revealed a descending staircase. The sharp edges of arctic glaciers scraped over my throat like blades attempting to end my life. If they got me down there, I’d never come out.

Blood pounded in my eardrums, and I breathed deeply, trying to gather my strength. I would not let them toss me down in that darkness. I’d been there too many times when I was young and vulnerable, and I swore never to let it happen again.

Heat, and not from the drug, swam through my veins as if someone had poured liquid fire in them. A feral growl crawled up my throat, and my vision sharpened, shoving the fuzziness away. Mason tensed as if he felt the change come over me.

But he didn’t expect me to really pose a challenge. And like so many others, that would be his downfall.

I stopped struggling and dropped all my weight against him. He stumbled and loosened his grip, giving me the chance to shimmy out of his arms. Levi rushed forward to capture me, but I sank the dagger into his side.

He shrieked and fell into the wall.

“You’re not going anywhere.” Mason’s fingers tangled in my hair, yanking my head back to drag me toward the stairs.

My scalp burned as I gripped the doorjamb with one hand while crushing my elbow into his ribs. With a curse, he released me. Fury slid through my muscles, giving me strength as I spun and lifted the knife.

Mason scoffed. “Do you really think you can kill me with that?”

“No, but I can with this.” I ran my thumb over the symbol on the hilt, lengthening the blade. Mason didn’t have time to react before I sank the sword into his neck.

With a sickening squelch, his head dropped and rolled across the floor while his body tumbled down the stairs.
