I was drowning. Getting pummeled by hurricane Faith.

Sipping our rye, I pulled on my tie repeatedly, feeling like I was choking.

“Are you okay?” Miles Williams asked me, giving me a long stare. “You look like you’re coming down with the flu or something.” He had started to edge away from me.

“I don’t have the flu.”

Nope. I’d come down with a case of lovesick, heartbroken idiot.

Miles’ girlfriend Toni, who was Sera’s sister, came over. With Faith in tow. Because of course Faith was with Toni, who wanted to be with her boyfriend, who was talking to me. I tried not to sigh and I really tried not to look at Faith’s tits, which were fully on display above the neckline of her red dress.

Red dress that was skintight. If I hadn’t already mentioned that.

I wondered if she was wearing panties.

“Hi guys!” Toni said, brightly, going on her tiptoes to kiss her boyfriend quickly.

She turned to me and her smile fell away. “Are you okay? Are you sick?”

“I’m fine.”

Faith looked at me in concern, her friend from college in tow. “Are you sure?” she asked. “You look…”

“What?” I demanded. “What do I look like?” I sounded gruff and alpha and sexual.

Her eyes widened. She lifted her soft drink to her mouth and wrapped her red lips around the straw. She sucked it.

I almost strode over to the 3D display of the Four Brothers Bourbon swords and plunged one into my heart.

She was ridiculously sexy and I loved her and we werejust co-workers. Not even friends anymore. We couldn’t really be that without crossing boundaries, that was clear.

“Angry. You look angry.” Now she was playing with the tip of the straw with her tongue.

“I’m not angry, Faith,” I said, angrily.

The friend actually gasped.

“Mac,” Miles said. “Come with me for a minute. We need to get with Dak about planning that golf trip we talked about. Ladies, we’ll be right back.” He tilted his head to the left and gave me a telling look.

I went with him. “What golf trip?”

“There’s no golf trip. Well, there should be. Why haven’t we done a golf trip? Anyway, what the hell was that, man? You about ripped Faith’s head off.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said, flatly.

Miles shook his head. “You’re a terrible liar. I know you. We’ve spent a lot of time together over the years. You’ve got a thing for Young’s sister.”

I stopped walking. “Don’t worry about it.” There is no point in denying it. It didn’t matter. It wasn’t going anywhere. It was my problem.

“Don’t worry about it? Everyone knows you hooked up with her at the wedding.”

I had sort of forgotten that before I knew Faith was Faith Young and I had just thought she was Faith, the catering server, I had told the guys we’d had sex behind the barn. I hadn’t been trying to brag or anything, but I had returned to the reception in wrinkled clothes with damp hair from our dip in the pond. They’d known something had happened. “I really wish everyone didn’t know that. You don’t think they all told their girlfriends, do you?”

I wouldn’t want Faith to be the object of any sort of gossip. That had never been my intention.

“I have no idea. Dak, doubtful. He’s usually mostly interested in himself and Eloise. Train, probably not, because he and Sydney are preoccupied with their baby. JJ, it’s possible he told Mia. I didn’t tell Toni, because Sera is her sister. So, you’re welcome, by the way. I don’t like keeping things from my girl.”

I grimaced. “Thanks. This is messy, isn’t it?”
