Damn…

“Yes, teacup, you managed to convince my family to patch things up with the Russians and that wasn’t easy. Russina was very persuasive, and my brothers trusted her. But now it’s not about her anymore. Now I have you,” he said, his voice thick and rich and velvety.

Then, before I could do anything, he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close to him. Lilly was giggling to herself, still playing and flitting around like a butterfly, I suddenly felt very warm in all these indecent places. Our breaths mingled, our mouths only inches apart.

Was he going to kiss me? I stopped breathing because I was so afraid and so aroused all at the same time. Weak—and not just because of my condition. Luckily, I was sitting down, or my legs would have buckled under me.

The heat from his body transferred to me, seeping into me and spreading down to the pit of my stomach. My hand lifted to his chest of its own volition. I closed my eyes, suddenly dizzy, and gently pushed. Sensing my hesitation, he loosened his grip.

“I … I’m not ready,” I breathed out, opening my eyes again.

He looked so wounded, his bottomless dark brown eyes speaking volumes, yet he nodded and went back to holding my hand. Looking out into the distance in the direction where Lilly was playing, he swallowed. I stared at his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down.

“I understand that but I have missed you so fucking much, Marinka. I thought you were dead and blamed myself for everything. You fell in a coma while carrying our child,” he said, his voice hoarse and strained.

I looked down at our linked hands and brushed a lock of hair behind my ear. I wanted this closeness, and yet, I was too much of a chicken to make a move. There was a big, gaping hole in my brain and I had to sort that out before I could move on.

Lilly ran to us then, grabbing both our legs and saving us from further discomfort. We both looked down at her mop of curly blond hair. I’d never get enough of her giggles.

“Daddy! You should be carrying me, and you two weren’t looking when I chased the butterfly,” Lilly chided, gazing at both of us with her wide blue eyes. “You forgot about me.”

I needed to get some pictures of me as a child, and of my brother, Nicolas. Lilly reminded me of him, so adventurous and lively, just like he was. Sebastian let go off my hand and picked her up.

“Of course we were watching you. I just had to remind your mother how much we missed her,” he said. “I will never forget you, Lilly, because you’re my princess and you and your mommy are the most important women in my life.”

“Really? I am a princess?” she asked, and we both laughed.

“Yes, you’re a real princess. Now let’s get back inside. Doctor Stephens doesn’t want us to strain your mother,” he said.

“I’m feeling fine today, especially after my session with Dr. Mike. He’s really good at his job,” I said, looking forward to my physiotherapy session later on today. It would be a while before I got back into shape. I’d never been into sports, but I did like yoga and gentle stretching. I couldn’t wait to be able to do regular movements without my muscles aching so much after.

“Who the hell is Dr. Mike and why haven’t I met him yet?” Sebastian asked, frowning. Lilly slipped down from his lap and quickly ran back to the flowers.

“He’s my physiotherapist. He told me I need some work in order to get back to normal,” I explained, amused that he was getting so agitated. “Dr. Stephens sent him. Besides, he could be old enough to be my grandfather, just like Dr. Stephens.”

His frown only got deeper. “Well, is he that old?” he growled.

“Well…” I said, biting on my bottom lip. “Not really…

An animalistic grunt emitted from his mouth. His face went purple. Holy moly. He looked about ready to explode.

“Why didn’t the doctor send a woman to … to touch you all over?” he asked, waving his hand up and down my body to make his point. “They shouldn’t have some guy showing up like this, no doubt drooling all over you. You’re my wife and I should be the only one to—”

“Are you serious? That’s his job and I am sure I am not his only patient, Sebastian,” I retorted. “Besides, several doctors and nurses have seen enough of my body by now to know where every mole is located, most probably. I had to laugh at his display of outrage.

“I don’t fucking care!” He was getting agitated now. “You’re going to get a new physiotherapist approved by me,” he snapped, and I folded my arms over my chest.

The old Marinka wouldn’t even try to argue with him, but this Marinka felt more assertive. There was no way my husband was going to dictate what doctor was supposed to work with me. This was absurd and I was having none of it.

“Not happening. This is my body and I don’t belong to anyone. Dr. Mike is staying. I like him,” I announced firmly. Besides, I enjoyed seeing him so pissed off over something so trivial. He looked like he was going to lose his mind about the fact that some doctor he hadn’t personally vetted was helping me out with my physical routine. I stood from the bench and started to walk toward Lilly.

Sebastian shot up, grabbed my elbow from behind, and pulled me into him, his hand around me locking me in place. Then, he turned me around to face him on the bench, wrapped his arm around me again, and pressed his large hand on my chest so I couldn’t move. The heat from his body drove me instantly crazy and then I felt something hard press against my right ass cheek.

My mouth went suddenly dry. Was that an erection? He was aroused by my defiance… That was definitely something new to me.

“Are you fucking trying to argue with me, teacup?” he whispered in my ear, his tone making me shudder with sudden need. Why did he have to be so handsome and domineering, clouding my better judgment in every possible way?

“Don’t call me teacup. I hate that nickname. And I might be your wife on paper, but that doesn’t mean you can just decide how I should be living my life. I am awake now and I want Dr. Mike to continue to get me into shape,” I said calmly, trying to push him away, but his grip was like steel. “Now let go of me before Lilly sees us.”
