CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Too Much to Risk

Stephanie

Laying out by the pool and sunbathing on our private deck had to be the best part about vacationing. That and the free drinks that just kept coming curiosity of the amazing staff.

“So…” Taylor turned to face me. “What’s been going on with you and Logan?” She couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across her face. Pulling her sunglasses down to cover her eyes as she leaned up on her elbows.

“I don’t know. I can’t really explain it, but the way he makes me feel when I’m with him, there’s just this pull that I can’t seem to break,” I sighed. “Even when he got drafted and moved away, I still felt this need to be near him,” I confessed. “And the more time we spend together now, the more I realize how completely different he is.”

“Is that a good thing?” Taylor asked.

“Well, it certainly isn’t a bad thing,” Jade said. “I don’t want to jinx it but.”

“Don’t say it.”

“He’s kind of perfect.”

“And she said it.”

“What?” Jade laughed.

“My sister thought Nick was perfect and look how that turned out.”

“Logan is clearly not Nick,” Taylor said.

“We’ve all met Nick and let me be honest. I didn’t like him from the moment I met him,” Jade said.

“Wait. You didn’t?”

“I didn’t like the way he watched us.”

“The way he watched us?”

“You didn’t notice?” Jade asked, pushing her sunglasses atop her head.

“No. How did he look at us?”

“With annoyance. Like us being around you inconvenienced him.”

“Oh my God, I thought I was the only one who noticed that.” Taylor agreed.

Listening to the way they both spoke about Nick, I must have been blind not to see the signs. “I had no idea either of you felt that way.”

“He never said anything to you?” Jade asked, lifting a shapely brow in question.

“I mean we fought all the time about my writing and me going out but I didn’t realize other people were starting to feel like they were affected. I’m sorry guys,” I said, flipping over to keep our tans even. “But enough about Nick, what about Taylor and Bradly?” I said, unable to help myself.

“What about Bradly and I?” Taylor asked, playing dumb.

“I saw the way the two of you looked at each other,” I said, turning the conversation back around to her.

“What way?” She asked, unable to hide the smile that tugged in place.

“Don’t act like you don’t know what we’re talking about.

“There was barely a look,” she shrugged.
