“So, I take it you’ve got a fairly late shift? I’ll be closing around midnight, so if you’re done by then maybe we can hit the club or something?” she says, kissing his cheek before waving goodbye on her way out.

“Sounds good, babe,” he calls after her.

Once I had the cucumber salad and the batter for the Strawberry Torte prepped and chilling in the fridge, I looked up at the kitchen clock to see it was going on to dinner hour.

Pulling out my phone once again, there was still no word from Stephanie. “Have you heard from them?” Bradly asked, looking around.

“Not a word.” I shook my head. “Ronnie said some spots might have poor reception.”

“I had a call drop this morning, so I don’t doubt it. Do you want me to see if I can track them down?”

“Would you?” I asked, starting to shape the meatballs.

“Do you have any idea what their plans were this afternoon? You know as a starting point?”

“Stephanie did say something along the lines of them getting pampered. Maybe check the spa?”

“I’ll see what I can do,” Bradly offered.
