I bite at my bottom lip, my stomach flip-flopping, my heart pounding as I debate my response.

Because no, I am not good. I’m somewhere between great and totally fucked, depending on the nanosecond.

His pinky touches mine and I almost detonate on the spot, desire zinging through me. I swallow hard, blood whooshing loudly in my ears.

“Yeah, I’m good.”

I pop up from the chair, slamming my laptop shut, effectively breaking our connection.

“Thanks for your help. I’m going to order the sign first thing tomorrow.”

“Great.” Colt sits back, swiping his palms over his shorts. “I’ll clean up. Thanks for cooking—dinner was great.”

“Sure, no problem.”

He starts stacking the plates and silverware and I retreat to the bathroom, grateful that I didn’t say or do anything I’d regret in the morning.

CHAPTER 10

COLT

Shit, that was close.

What am I thinking, moving in on Trix? She’s Danny’s little sister. That automatically translates to off-limits for life.

Sure, she’s pretty. Fine, more like beautiful, with those wide aquamarine eyes and that long, dark fringe of lashes. That perfect bow mouth, her lips plump and pink.

Perfect cock-sucking lips.

Now all I can think about is Trix on her knees, gazing up at me, her pillowy lips wrapped around my cock. Her skin flushed as she sucks me in so deep tears glisten in her eyes.

Get it together, Wild.Stop picturing your best friend’s sister naked, lapping at your dick.

I suck in a breath, scrubbing hard at the stuck-on pasta. Crystalline soap bubbles float into the air as I work the plate. I thought jacking off in the shower would calm me down, but apparently no. I’m still bricked up, every nerve in my body wired and ready for action.

I don’t know if I’m going to survive living with Trix. She just might kill me.

“You need any help?” Her melodic voice floats on the air, but I don’t dare turn around, instead shaking my head ‘no.’

“I’m good. You did enough tonight.” I scrub the last plate clean, stacking the dishes in the drying rack and cutting the water.

When I turn around, I’m not sure if I should be annoyed or relieved.

Trix constructed a wall of pillows straight down the center of the bed.

“Seriously?” I arch a brow, wiping my hands dry on my shorts.

“Yeah. I want my fifty percent of the bed tonight. Figured this would be the best solution.”

“For you,” I grump, stalking over to the bed and flopping down on my assigned side.

“And for you.” She leans up on her elbow, peering at me over the white wall of pillows, her hair falling over one eye. “This way you’re safe from me too. You know—in case I try to snuggle inadvertently. The pillows keep us separated.”

“Yeah, I’m well-aware of the purpose of a wall, thanks.” I stare up at the ceiling, hot aggravation swirling in my gut. Why, I’m not sure because she’s absolutely doing the right thing, keeping us apart. Better we don’t get involved with each other. That would only complicate things—and neither of us needs any more complications in our lives.

“You seem mad. Are you mad?” She bats her long lashes at me and some of the hotness in my chest dissipates.

“No, Trix, I’m not mad. Go to sleep. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.”
