“If by suck, you mean bite off, then sure. Right after you find it, but I hear it’ll take a while.” Two of the guys closest to us laugh at my words. The real dumb and dumber, Brian and Oliver. Never too far from Darrell.

Their leader sneers, pulling an oblivious Cassiecloser. “Maybe next time you see that mask, I won’t be jumping out from around a corner.”

“What are you, five?” I snap, pointing at the discarded mask.

Darrel pulls his mouth away from Cassie’s long enough to reply, “No, because I wouldn’t be about to fuck my girl if I was.”

I don’t try to hide my disgust at his words. The man’s repulsive and a dumbass to boot.

Cassie might be my best friend, but her taste in men sucks.

His hands grab and squeeze her ass while I’m standing right next to them. His eyes meet mine at the same time his lips latch onto her neck.

Wanting to be anywhere else, I head to where the keg sits, manned by a trio of footballers. Looking down, I step over his creepy mask. The white stands out in the darkness of the night, but it’s the bright red lips that freak me out.

As I glance around the crowd, three more of the same masks stand out in the darkness. They put me on edge. Ever since the clip of the Halloween killer wearing one was leaked earlier this year, the guys at college have been obsessed with getting their own for this year’s Halloween.

Sadistic assholes.

Tonight is not going to end well. This whole party was a bad idea.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Michael

“That’s the prick from the campus parking lot. The one who shoved your girl down,” Kaleb tells me, pointing at the broad guy wearing a number twelve football jersey like I didn’t notice. I send my brother a look.

But aloud, I say, “She’s not my girl.”

“Well, why didn’t you say that last night? I wouldn’t have minded her riding me until dawn.”

He wants me to kill him.

“Is this how you felt?” I ask, turning to Daniel.

“Yes,” he answers, still looking down at the summer camp through his binoculars.

“I’ll never flirt with Charlie again,” I promise him.

“Charlotte.” Daniel corrects me, still hating her nickname.

“This is why I don’t do relationships.” Kaleb laughs.

“Why are you here?” I glare.

“The timber yard is behind schedule, so I can’t take the load until Tuesday. My brother from another mother, you get the pleasure of my company for two more days.”

“It’s not your company or your pleasure he wants.”

My head shoots back like I’ve been slapped. “Daniel Cromwell, did you just make a joke?”

My big brother grins at me.

“If Charlie asks, you’re at Kaleb’s house?” I ask about his alibi.

“If anyone asks, we’re all at my house. Alcohol and cards,” Kaleb pipes up.

My mind rolls back to the last time we needed an alibi. “Cooper still being a pain in the ass?”
