I’m thinking about sneaking out when Michael stands and pulls my chair out too. “I’m going to take Lara home.”

I give the room a small wave. “Bye.”

Kaleb scrubs his face. “Bye, Fawn. Don’t be a stranger.”

“Bye, Lara. Make sure you keep your promise and go see the doctor in town if you’re still in pain tomorrow, please,” Christopher tells me. It’s not a question.

Maybe his boys get their demanding personalities from him. It’s always the quiet ones.

“Do you need Kaleb to carry you out to the car?” Michael whispers.

I shake my head quickly. The worry on his face wipes away my annoyance at his earlier words. He’s just worried. “I’m feeling better, not one hundred percent,” I admit, honestly. “But I’m okay. I’ll go to the doctor if I need to,” I promise again.

His eyes search my face. “You better,” Michael warns after a minute.

So bossy.

The large hand on the small of my back makesmy thoughts fall away, but even distracted, it’s hard not to notice the shift in the room at Michael’s action.

Stepping into the living room, I glance back to see Helen give me a bright smile.

“What are you blushing about?” Michael asks as we step out into the cold air.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Lara

Loud music thumps around me as our bodies grind together in the dim light. Candles, oil lamps, and flashlights litter the sides and floor.

“Are you sure the Cromwells won’t know we’re here? Their cabin is, like, right down the road,” I yell to be heard.

Cassie shrugs. “Darrell says they’re not there tonight.”

I roll my eyes at my best friend since junior high.Oh, if Darrell says.

“That boy barely knows his own name. We could get kicked out of college for this,” I insist, glancing around.

Handing me a beer, the blonde throws her arm around my neck, dragging me toward the back doorand into the open air. “They won’t care. Besides, you can just suck that middle brother’s dick, and he’ll forget about the whole thing.”

Why did I tell her about Wednesday?

“The man didn’t even give me his number. He’s not interested.” I pout.

“Ahhhh!” a large masked man yells. He jumps out from the side of the house with his arms raised.

Cassie and I both scream. She lowers her arm and shoves me toward the masked man while I throw my beer bottle at his chest.

Darrell rips the white mask off, doubling over with laughter as relief and anger flood me.

Dick. Head.

“You should see your faces,” he says, still laughing. I hate him.

“Baby, you scared me.” Cassie slaps at his stomach, but she doesn’t even sound angry. Her hand roams over his chest, then up and around his neck. “We’re going to need that mask later.”

I think I just threw up a little.

“Whose cock are you sucking, other than mine?” Darrell asks. I shiver as he looks over me, and the cold air has nothing to do with it.
