“You mean now?” Vince asked, gazing over at me like kissing me was a complete surprise.

“What better time?” I said, using my most sexy voice.

He finished chewing, swallowed, took several gulps of his beer, wiped his mouth on his napkin, and sat up straight, after he cleared his throat a couple of times, like he was getting ready to give us a lecture rather than giving me a kiss.

I crawled up to him on all fours, and he leaned down, and we kissed. As soon as our lips touched, for a moment, I felt a rush of heat race through my body. The guys whooped and whistled as soon as our mouths came together. But for me, the sensation startled me, so I pulled away and sat back on my legs.

“Something wrong?” he asked, looking as though I’d left him way too soon. The guys continued to torment us with their cheers.

Then they abruptly stopped while I contemplated the situation. “No. Yes. No. Can we try that again?”

“Sure,” he said, and this time, he pulled me up on his lap. I slid my arms around his neck and ran my hands through the hair on the back of his head.

I leaned into the kiss, while his mouth burned through mine. While his tongue danced over mine, and tingles ran right down to my core, I knew his kiss had made me wet, so wet that it startled me.

This time, I lost myself in the kiss, and I had a feeling the same thing happened to him. We were two people hungry for each other, at least until I heard the guys moan about how good we looked together.

“Fuck, I thought I’d be jealous. Instead, watching you two is turning me on,” Bram said.

And just when Freddie started to say something, everyone stopped.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

We abruptly pulled apart, my heart beating like crazy.

“What the hell was that?” Freddie asked, instantly standing, fists clenched, looking like he was ready to punch out whatever or whoever made the noise.

Then we heard the distinctive sound of Carrie Ann’s laughter. Great big guffaws, as if she were truly enjoying herself.

“This is some fucking scary shit. It’s real. Did she make those noises?” Bram wanted to know. He looked just as angry and aggressive as Freddie.

Vince was still recovering from our kiss. It took him a bit longer to get into the retaliation game.

“I wonder what the hell she did,” he asked, finally appearing to be ready to take on Carrie Ann and her antics. “Maybe one of us should check out the upstairs playroom.”

“It’s your house, Vince. I think you should check it out,” Bram told him.

I knew this would turn into a pissing contest, so I had to step in. “No one’s going anywhere alone. We’re all going upstairs, or no one’s going. That’s the new rule. I’m making it, so don’t fucking argue with me.”

“I’m all for it,” Vince said, but didn’t move.

No one moved.

It was like they were all waiting for me.

Freddie reached down and shoved the rest of his slice of pizza in his mouth, guzzled down the remainder of his beer, grabbed a flashlight, and said, “Let’s get this thing done.”

We followed him out of the room, each of us either carrying our own flashlight or wearing a headlamp. I couldn’t help but feel like we were in a Scooby-Doo cartoon, and we were members of Mystery Inc.

“All we need now is a dog,” I whispered.

“Why would we want a dog?” Bram asked.

Freddie chuckled. “Oh, I get it. Like maybe a Great Dane?“

“Exactly,” I said, laughing with him, but Bram and Vince didn’t seem to understand. Apparently, Scooby-Doo hadn’t been one of their favorite cartoons.

We were headed for the main stairway in the small foyer, near the front door. When we got close, we heard the same three loud booms once again, but this time, we didn’t hesitate; instead, we quickened our pace. Freddie walked up next to me, so close our bodies touched. Just as they did, lightning lit up the room, and a crack of thunder caused me to jump and yelp. Freddie slid his hand around my waist and pulled me in tighter. All my fears slipped away until we saw that the front door was wide open, and rain sprayed onto the floor.
