“Yeah,” he said. “Plus, the house has access to the main pool and hot tub if you’re ever in the mood. Youcanswim, right?”

“Absolutely,” I told him. “I was on a swim team in high school.”

Being a nanny to three kids, swimming had to be a prerequisite. In retrospect, I was surprised the question never came up before.

“Oh yeah? So was I. The kids can all swim. The pool never gets very deep, five feet max. We did that purposely. So, no diving or dive bombing.”

“Got it.”

We walked down a short hallway, into another room. It looked a little like a comfortable business center but decorated in warm colors and lots of natural wood.

“Is this like a separate office?” I asked, walking into the small but well-appointed room.

“It’s all set up for that, yes.”

“This is fabulous,” I told him, running my fingers over the wooden desk with one of those comfy adjustable office chairs made of a black nylon netting. And bookshelves lined two of the walls. Of course, most of the shelves were loaded down with books, but from this range, I couldn’t make out the titles.

I suddenly felt as if I’d just landed in an alternate universe, a comfy, high-end universe, and I never wanted to leave… ever.

Still, I knew I had to remind myself that this was only temporary.

“Glad you like it,” he said. “The bedroom and bath are across the hall. They’re both stocked with everything you’ll need, but if we forgot anything, just tell Loraine, and she’ll get it for you. She’s our guardian angel. Couldn’t function without her.”

“I can’t see how I could possibly need anything else. This is perfect… just perfect.”

I kept thinking about how I would approach the subject of a new talent agency, but nothing short of blurting it out came to mind. Instead, I decided to simply enjoy the tour of this insanely fabulous house.

I walked across the hall and into the bedroom and wanted to throw myself on the plush-looking, queen-sized bed that called out to me. It was covered in a white down blanket, and the pillows looked as though I could sink right down into them. I hadn’t slept well last night due to my motel neighbors having sex at least three times. And they had no problem letting everyone around them know how good it felt. Plus, the mattress seemed to be made of wood, and the blankets weren’t warm enough.

This bed, on the other hand, looked like a great-big white cloud, and I wanted nothing more than to sink right down into it.

“How long did you say the kids would be gone today?”

He pulled out his phone and gazed at the time. “About two more hours, at least.”

That was all I needed to hear.

In the next moment, I took a few steps towards the bed, closed my eyes, and leapt into it with my arms outstretched, wanting to have it engulf my tired bones.

Which it did.

I knew it wasn’t very professional of me, but at this point, I couldn’t help myself.

When I finally opened my eyes, Kasey was leaning over, gazing down at me. “I’m thinking you like the bed.”

“I’ve been living in a motel.”

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

“Do you know how good this bed feels?”

“No. I’ve never slept on it.”

“Well, you should at least try it out.” I patted the spot next to me.

“When… now?”

Once again, he grinned. Only this time, it was a skeptical type of grin, as if he was happy about my invitation, but he didn’t quite know how to take it.
