“Sure. I haven’t had a good piece of steak in a while.”

I stand and offer my hand to help her up. Lana takes it, but as soon as she’s upright, she removes it from mine. It was enough. The electricity I felt when our skin touched went right into my belly and below. I have to make tonight perfect because I need this woman in my bed. I know it’s a Neanderthal type of thinking, but nothing is going to quench my thirst until we have sex.

I plant my hand on the small of her back and steer her to the street. Lana doesn’t protest or shrug away, so I keep it there. Inches above is the soft creamy exposed skin of her back. I would love to stroke it with my knuckles, but I refrain.

“Just a few blocks down. They have wonderful food.”

We walk just a little longer, and I stop her in front of my favorite place, Molly McGiven’s. They have the best steaks done on an open fire right in front of the customer. I found this place when I moved my offices into a new building not far from here and became friends with the owner because I eat here so much.

“I heard of this place. How are you getting a reservation?”

“I have a standing reservation. I know the owner.”

I’m greeted by the hostess, Tina, a tall brunette with a no-nonsense attitude.

“Mr. Butler, here for dinner or drinks?”

“Dinner, please. Is Dustin here?”

“No, Mr. Cavanaugh left a little while ago. I’ll let him know you were asking for him.”

“Thanks.”

She shows us to seating in the back of the restaurant where it’s more quiet and intimate. Lana gives me a raised eyebrow as she sits on the burgundy leather booth cushions.

“A little intimate for a first date, don’t you think?”

“Do I make you nervous?”

“No. Do I make you nervous?”

“Honestly? A little.”

She smiles almost wickedly, and I wonder if she would give me that when we’re in bed together.

“So, if you’re afraid, why did you ask me?”

“I like to face my fears. Enough about emotions. Tell me about yourself.”

“What you see is what you get.”

“A hot, sexy woman in a cute little dress?”

That got her. Her cheeks begin to pink from embarrassment.

“Is that all you see?”

I’m not really interested in this cat and mouse game, but I want to know more about her so I’ll play.

“I see confidence, optimism, curiosity, some annoyance, and passion.”

“Passion?”

“You have fire, Lana. It’s written all over your face.”

“And annoyance?”

“At me. I can see it peek out. You try to hide it, but I know you’re annoyed. Did I take you away from something important?”
