“Forget it. She would have given you her number if she was interested. You got a whole phone of contacts to have fun with.”

“I’m not interested in them. I’m interested in her.”

“Good luck wasting your time. She seemed like a snob from where I was sitting.”

I ignore Miguel and scoop some food onto my plate. I can’t get Lana out of my head. I caught a whiff of her perfume, and it was heavenly. I’d love to smell it again while she’s naked underneath me. I feel an immediate reaction to the thought, and I adjust my jeans to accommodate my condition.

I dreamed of her for several nights. I find myself daydreaming while I sit at my desk. She’s sexy and beautiful. Lana must drive men crazy. I wonder how far the lucky bastard got that she went out with Friday night. Did he fuck her? For the past few days, she had been fodder for jerking off. I want her.

I’ve been coming to Clancy’s every night to see if I can spot her again. It’s nerve-wracking. I sit at the bar sipping a scotch neat or a beer after work in the hopes of catching a glimpse of her again, but she hasn’t been in. The bartenders know me, and I ask about her, but they have no idea who I’m talking about.

I should have insisted on getting her number when I had her in front of me on Friday. I’m just about to leave when I spot her. She’s sitting with the young woman, Anne I think her name is, at a corner table. This time, I’m not letting her get away. Lana is not paying attention as I walk up to the table. She’s wearing a cute peach colored sundress and strappy heels of the same color.

“Back to see me?” I say.

Lana snorts. “See you? Hardly.”

“You’re being difficult.”

“I’m not. I’m just not interested.”

Anne looks at me. “I am.”

“Baby, if you were my type, I would be all over you.”

She smiles and then picks her purse up and is strolling towards the door before Lana can say anything.

“I can’t believe she’s leaving,” I say.

“Let her go and have dinner with me.”

“Zane, I’m not interested. You are persistent.”

“You remembered my name. That’s a start.”

She gulps the red wine sitting in front of her and brushes her thick auburn locks to the side.

“It’s also a finish. I’m seeing someone. You can’t just charm me with your good looks and your pretty blue eyes.”

My heart sinks, but I’m not going to give up that easily. “Why isn’t he here? You can date more than one person at a time, can’t you?”

“If I go out on a date with you, will you leave me alone?”

I smile brightly. “You might not want to after you go out with me.”

“Don’t bet on it,” Lana says under her breath.

“Would you like to go out to dinner now?”

“Fine. This is your one date.”

And I plan on making it the best date you’ve ever had.

“What would be your pleasure? What kind of food do you like?”

“Anything really, except sushi. I just can’t get used to raw stuff.”

“How about steak? I know an excellent steakhouse near here.”
