“You took me away from a night of television and chocolate chip ice cream.”

“And that annoys you?”

“Not particularly, but I was planning on resting tonight not answering a million questions about who I am and what I want in life.”

“You can save yourself and just offer up the information freely.”

“You’re so sure of yourself, aren’t you?”

“If by that, you mean that I’m not afraid to offer a glimpse into my life. I can go first if you like.”

“Go right ahead.”

Before I can get started, the waiter comes to the table to take our order.

“Can I order for us, or do you have something in mind for yourself?”

Lana leans forward. “By all means, order for me.”

She crosses her arms and a playful smirk forms on her lips.

“Filet mignon, medium, mixed vegetable medley, garlic mashed potatoes and start us off with Caesar salads. I’ll have a vodka tonic. Lana, what would you like to drink?”

“A glass of burgundy.”

The waiter takes our menus and hurries off to put our order into the chef.

“You ready to hear about me?”

“Shoot.”

“I’m Zane Butler, but you already knew that. I’m thirty years old and own a software company. We concentrated on the educational market but just got funding to help us move into gaming. I developed two games when I was a senior at Boston University. Their sale gave me seed money to start my company. I was born in Albany and have a younger sister, Paige.”

“Thirty. You’re a bit old for me.”

“How old are you?”

“I’m twenty-four.”

“What’s six years? If you were seventeen and I was twenty-three, it would be a different story. You’re an adult. At least I think you are.”

“The guy I’m seeing is only one year older than me.”

“A gorgeous woman like you must have dated older men before. I find it hard to believe that you haven’t.”

“When I was younger. I dated a man that was twenty-six when I was twenty-one.”

“I assure you, I don’t bite, and I think that you will find I’m quite civilized. Don’t let age get in the way of us starting a relationship.”

“That’s what you want? A relationship?”

“Or a friendship. I’m not asking you to marry me for heaven’s sake. I just want to get to know you. Can you tell me about you now that I’ve revealed myself?”

“Okay. I’m Lana Collins, twenty-four. I work as an executive assistant for a vice president at Collins and Rowe.”

“Collins as in James Collins?”

“Yes, that’s my father.”
