“What do you mean?”

“You putting your arm around me. It’s going to make them wonder.”

“It’s nothing. I like touching you. Is that okay?”

“It is unless it means something to you.”

“You’re reading too far into it.”

“Okay, then let’s forget it.”

At my apartment, I dig around until I find the perfect dress. It’s black, short, and shows plenty of cleavage. Chase scowls when he sees it on me.

“Do you have to show that much?”

“Would you stop trying to dictate what I wear?”

“I’m sorry.”

He’s quiet for the rest of the time I’m getting ready, but every time I catch his gaze, I can see him scrutinizing everything I do.

“Okay, ready,” I finally say as I check my appearance.

“Wow, those heels are high. Can you even walk in those?”

I have to agree with him. The four-inch heels are high put me almost eye to eye with him.

“I’ll have you know that I’ve been wearing heels since I was thirteen, so I think I’ll be fine.”

Hunter, Rory, and Matty are waiting for us when we get to Vibes. The bouncer has our names on a list and lets us in without any issues. The club is beautifully decorated, and the music is so loud I can feel it pulsing through my body. I haven’t been out in a while, and I’m in the mood to dance. I also have a feeling that everyone in our party will join me except for Chase.

Hunter’s friend, the owner, had reserved a table for us. When the waitress comes by to take our drink orders, I take note that Chase only orders a seltzer with lime. I order a dirty martini.

“Chase, would you like to dance?” I ask once she leaves.

“I don’t dance.”

“Then, why did you come?”

“Isn’t it obvious?”

Ignoring him, I let Matty take me to the dance floor. As we’re grinding against each other, I can feel him he lean closer, then presses a kiss to my neck.

“You smell great,” he says loudly in my ear.

Unbothered, I respond, “Thanks, so do you!”

We continue to dance through a few more songs until we decided to head back to the table. Still sitting there, Chase has a permanent frown etched on his face. A woman that knows Matty arrives shortly after and asks him to dance. After a quick sip of his drink, he’s back on the floor, leaving me alone with Chase.

“What’s the matter with you?” I call over the music.

“I don’t like what I’m seeing.”

“And what exactly are you seeing?”

“A man that wants to take you to his bed.”

“Chase, stop being such a jerk. Matty and I are friends.”
