“It’s in Southampton.”

I hear him sigh deeply, and I know now that he’s annoyed.

“Lexi, I don’t want to drive out to Long Island in holiday traffic.”

“I know, I’m sorry, but this is a way for me to get to know everyone at the office. I haven’t had time. I can go by myself and be back Saturday night.”

“I just came back from being away. I don’t want to spend another day without you. I’ll go, but can we leave early in the morning, so we don’t have to deal with the traffic? We can have breakfast somewhere until it’s time to go.”

I inwardly sighed, and my heart swelled with love. “Thank you, Noah. I appreciate this.”

“You better show me how much appreciation tonight,” he growls.

I know he’s joking by being demanding, but I plan on appreciating him tonight just the same.

“I love you. I’ll let you get back to work.”

“Love you too, darlin’.”

As I hang up the phone, JC shows up at my door, entering my office without an invitation. His stride is graceful, and he sits in one of the chairs in front of my desk.

“Are you coming tomorrow, or did your fiancé nix the idea?”

“Why are you so gung-ho to get me over to Vincent’s?”

“I’m not gung-ho. I just thought we would have a good time hanging out. I want to meet Noah.”

“Is Brianna coming?”

“Yes. She fought with one of her girlfriends and came home last night.”

“Well then, I’m looking forward to meeting her,” I said sarcastically.

JC looked at me, puzzled but said nothing and left my office. Why did I say it like that? I don’t care about his wife. He hadn’t told me much about her looks, but I was sure she was a petite perfect Barbie Doll with blonde hair. She’ll probably stroll around in the tiniest of bikinis.

Except for a quick proofread on the copy for The Kingston Group, my day is pretty easy. I’m ahead of schedule with the Camilla campaign and a new package I’m working on for Kansas City Steaks. I don’t see JC for most of the day until it’s time to leave. He stops into my office just before I pack up my work for the day.

“Are you staying in Southampton tomorrow night?”

“I doubt it. It’s Memorial Day weekend, and I’m sure there’s nothing available.”

“You can stay with us.”

“Where are you staying?”

“Brianna’s family has a house about a mile from Vincent’s house. Why drive home in the dark when you can stay local.”

“I would need to see if Noah wants to stay. I know he had some things to do this weekend.”

JC frowned. “Lexi, what do you want to do? All I keep hearing about is Noah.”

“JC, that’s unfair. Noah is very giving, and he would do whatever I want. But I don’t want to take him away from his work.”

“Then he can go home, and you can stay with us. We can give you a ride back to the city on Sunday or Monday.”

“Thank you, but I would rather go home with Noah. I promised we would spend some alone time this weekend.”

He knitted his eyebrows together. “Well, think about it and text me. You have my number. Don’t forget to wear white.”
