Chapter 4

Cherry

What do the Mafia and a pussy have in common?

One slip of the tongue, and you’re in deep shit.

A notification sounds on my phone, but I don’t bother to check it. Ever since Jade insisted that I sign up for the stupid blind date app, I have received notifications with god-awful jokes that make me sigh with exasperation.

Another notification sounds, making my eyebrows furrow; maybe an emergency at the salon?

Placing down the curling iron, I reach over and grab my phone as another notification pops up on my screen.

It's not an emergency.

My date has finally come through, but I assume the app has broken because they sent me four reminders.

Well fuck, I only have two days to get an outfit ready and get booked in for a full wax.

Calling Jade, I put the phone on speaker as I finish getting ready for work.

“What’s up bitch?” her loud voice booms through the phone, her voice slightly breathless.

“I got the time, date, and place for the date,” I tell her.

“Oh fuck! One second, pull your pork sword out of me, Jackson. I have official best friend duties to attend to,” she shouts, the rustling sound of clothes following in a hurry.

“Oh my god! Were you getting your guts rearranged?” I exclaim.

I’m not surprised, but I am equally horrified.

“Well, I’m not now, but I was,” she happily informs me. “Make me a coffee, babe, will you?”

“Babe?”

“You ask a lot of questions for someone about to get laid, but yes, Jackson managed to seduce me and has laid claim to coochie since.”

“Jackson? As in Jackson from the bistro?” I ask her.

“The very same.”

“Well, I’m never going to be able to look at him the same,” I laugh, and so does she; I can hear Jackson laughing in the background.

“What are you planning to wear? Oh my god! You need to get booked in for a wax! You currently look like Chewbacca’s sister with those legs,” my lovely best friend tells me oh so helpfully.

“Gee, thanks,” I mutter, adding the final curl to my hair, “I don’t know what to wear; I have the little black dress, but what if it’s casual? Should I wear jeans and a cute top?”

I’m ranting. I know I am, but I’m seriously panicking right now. I’ve not been on a date since Ronan, and we all know how that turned out.

“The dress. Definitely the dress. Easy access,” She cackles like an evil genius.

“Where was your date?” I ask her.

If I need to make a plan, I will because I refuse to go for a walk in that dress.

“We met outside the DNF bookstore. The app tries to arrange a safe public space in case you feel unsafe, and then you decide to go out for a meal or even some drinks,” Jade tells me, making me breathe out a sigh of relief. I’ve also messaged Becky about that wax. It's full Brazilian.”

I wince at the idea of hot wax going near my meat flaps, but I need to get out of this funk I’ve been in since Ronan.

“Thank you, Bish. I need to go, though; I’m going to be late for work,” I say, applying some lip balm as we both hang up the phone.

Quickly fixing my hair in the mirror, I shock myself when I see the excitement in my eyes.

This dating app may be a good idea after all.
