Chapter 19

A tear rolled down the queen’s cheek as she bid her son farewell. She was so emotional about her son getting the surgery. She wanted to go with her son but since she was the queen, she couldn’t leave the country. She had her own duties to attend to.

“I hate that you have to go with him,” she said to Fiona.

Fiona was going with Daniel to Baltimore for his surgery. She wanted to be with him throughout the process of getting the surgery and then going through rehab. The queen didn’t want Fiona to go with Daniel but there was nothing she could do about it. Daniel wanted someone that he could trust at his side and he did not trust many people.

“We don’t need to go over this again,” Daniel said to his mother.

“If anything happens to my son, I will hold you accountable,” the queen said to Fiona. Fiona nodded.

The queen hugged Daniel once more and then took a few steps back. His bodyguards helped him to get on the private jet. Fiona and Lady Agaiby got on the jet after Daniel. Lady Agaiby was also going to Baltimore. She was going to stay until Daniel’s surgery was over.

The flight to Baltimore was very long. Fiona was grateful when they finally landed. It had been such a long flight and she had been growing restless. She also hadn’t been able to sleep properly.

A car whisked them from the airport to a hotel. Fiona had never been to Baltimore but she was glad to be back on American soil. She had been away from America for almost three months. It wasn’t easy being in a completely new environment with new people.

When they arrived at the hotel, the bellman showed them to their rooms. They were staying in the presidential suites up on the highest floor of the hotel. No one could go there without a key to access the highest floor. Fiona had only seen presidential suites on television. She was excited to be staying in one.

Lady Agaiby went to her suite straightaway. Fiona was going to be staying in the same suite as Daniel. She was going to be staying in one of the smaller bedrooms. She had to stay close to Daniel during his recovery. He was going to need a lot of bed rest and assistance doing a lot of things.

The presidential suite was beautiful. There were beautiful wooden floors. There was a nice seating area by the fireplace. Fiona’s bedroom was smaller than Daniel’s but it was beautiful. There was a nice sized four-poster bed with so many pillows. The room had its own bathroom.

Fiona headed back to the living room where Daniel was. “Are you ready for tomorrow?” Fiona asked him. Daniel shrugged his shoulders.

“I guess so,” he replied. Fiona took Daniel’s hands into hers.

“It will be over before you know it. Your grandmother and I will be there.”

“Yeah.” Daniel kissed Fiona’s hand.

The next morning, Lady Agaiby and Fiona escorted Daniel to the hospital. He kissed Fiona before the doctors whisked him away to the operating room. Fiona felt very nervous. She was worried about all the things that could go wrong but she had stayed positive in front of Daniel. She didn’t want him to lose hope because of her.

“Shall I get you something to drink?” Fiona asked Lady Agaiby.

“No,” she replied. “My grandson really cares for you,” she added. Fiona sat down next to Lady Agaiby.

“I really hope this surgery goes well. I don’t want to see him feeling down again.”

“He was quite depressed after the accident. I have never seen him like that. It was like he was someone else.” Lady Agaiby sighed.

“It must have been hard for you.”

“It was hard for everyone.” Lady Agaiby turned to face Fiona. “Thank you for talking to him and convincing him to get the operation,” she said to her. Fiona shook her head.

“It was you that found the doctor. This is all because of you.”

Fiona and Lady Agaiby waited for hours. The longer they waited, the more nervous they grew. They tried to talk and keep each other calm but it didn’t do much good. They both still worried for Daniel. After what seemed like eternity, the doctor came to speak to them.

“We were able to repair the damaged nerves. Daniel is just in recovery now,” said Dr. Hunt.

“Oh, thank God.” Lady Agaiby closed her eyes and smiled.

“Can we see him?” Fiona asked.

“Yes, please follow me,” he replied.
