“You know that your mother is searching for a wife for you.”

“I am not interested.”

“Daniel,” his grandmother said with a stern look. Daniel knew that it was a warning. She often disciplined him when he was growing up because his mother let him get away with everything and his father was too busy running the country. So when his grandmother said his name in that tone, he knew that he needed to behave.

Daniel didn’t talk much for the rest of the lunch. His mother kept bringing Noor and Amina into the conversation by asking them questions or asking for their opinions. She really wanted Daniel to talk to them but he simply wasn’t interested. The two women were trying their best to talk to him. Whenever he made eye contact with either one of them, they would blush but he would just look away.

Daniel left as soon as they finished eating. He definitely didn’t want to stay and entertain Noor and Amina. It was enough that he had stayed for lunch and actually graced them with his presence.

“Good morning,” Fiona greeted Daniel as she walked into his bedroom the following day. Daniel was sitting in bed reading his newspaper. He looked up from his newspaper and then looked back down.

“What is up with your dress sense?” he asked. She was wearing black leggings, a long loose-fitting navy blue top and Converses.

“I am fine, thank you for asking,” she replied sarcastically.

“You don’t wear any makeup either.”

“It takes so much time to put on. Besides I don’t need it.”

“Mmhmm.”

Fiona rolled her eyes. “How are you today?” she asked.

“My lower back hurts,” he said. Fiona gasped and rushed over to him.

“What happened?”

“An accident.”

Fiona narrowed her gaze at him. “I mean did you pull a muscle or did you sleep in an awkward position? It doesn’t normally hurt, right?” She asked him so many questions at once.

“Enough with the twenty-one questions,” he said.

“Have you taken any medication?” She was still asking questions.

“Obviously.” He had to answer her, otherwise she would ask more questions.

“Would you like a massage?”

Daniel looked at her. “You are always looking for an excuse to touch my body,” he said. Fiona narrowed her gaze at him and curled her upper lip a little bit.

“Not true.” She sat down next to him. Daniel raised an eyebrow. She boldly sat on his bed without permission.

“What are you doing?”

“I am going to massage the painful area. Dr. Sadiq said it would help.”

“If I said no would you even listen?”

“Nope.” Fiona tucked a small curl behind her ear and then removed the pillows behind him to make room for herself. She touched his lower back. “Tell me where,” she added. Daniel sighed before he replied.

“A little to the left,” he replied. Fiona moved her hands and touched the painful spot. Daniel groaned in pain.

“Sorry.” Fiona began to massage the area. “If this doesn’t help, we will try a heat compress and if not, we will have to call Dr. Sadiq,” she added.

“I don’t like him. I want a new doctor.”
