“He didn’t do anything wrong, you are just being picky.”

“Excuse me?”

“With all due respect, your highness,” Fiona said with a bow of her head. Daniel shook his head. She was so informal with him. She must have thought that they were friends or something. “How was the lunch with your mother?” she asked him.

“You are prying in my personal matters,” he said plainly.

“I am just trying to divert your attention from the pain to something else.”

Daniel groaned. The pain was intense but the massage was helping. Fiona had small hands but they seemed useful. It did not come as a surprise when he noticed that she did not have any nail polish on her nails. She was quite a plain woman. “It was terrible,” he said after a while.

“Why?” Fiona asked.

“My mother wanted to introduce me to two females.”

“What is wrong with that?”

“She intends to find me a wife.”

“Oh that’s right, you do arranged marriages over here. That’s tough.” Fiona yawned loudly.

“A lady must yawn quietly with her hand over her mouth,” he informed her. Fiona giggled.

“My mouth was covered. So what was wrong with the two women?” She changed the subject.

“I am not interested in marriage.”

“But surely you know that you are expected to marry and produce heirs.”

“I am aware but I am not ready.”

“Why not?”

Daniel closed his eyes for a second. She was just so inquisitive, question after question. What was more shocking was the fact that he found himself answering her with ease.

“I don’t want to talk about this any longer,” he said. “You may go.”

“Do you feel emasculated by being in a wheelchair?” she asked. Daniel whipped his head around toward hers. Her eyebrows flew into her forehead. She was clearly surprised by the sudden movement. Their faces were just inches from each other.

“How dare you?” he asked. Rage coursed into his veins. She had asked a question that he had been dreading to answer. It was as if she could see into his thoughts.

“Being in a wheelchair doesn’t make you any less of a man.”

“I know that.” Did he? he asked himself. Because he had lost his confidence since the accident. “Do you think that I would feel impotent? You are crossing the line right now.”

“I know and it’s not meant to upset you. I am just saying you are still as much of a man as you were before. Being in a wheelchair shouldn’t stop you from getting married.”

“Easy for you to say. You don’t understand how your life changes after such an accident. Just do me a favor and go back to the Bronx,” he said.

“I am not leaving,” she said gently.

“What is going on?” A voice sounded from the doorway. Fiona and Daniel both turned towards the door and found the queen standing there.
