Chapter 12

On Sunday afternoon, Daniel got ready to go meet with his mother. She had insisted that he come to her quarters to have lunch with her and she had asked him to come dressed nicely. Daniel entered the living room from his bedroom and found Fiona also entering the living room. She hadn’t been with him all day.

“Where have you been?” he asked her.

“Did you miss me?” she asked with a smile.

“No.” Did she actually expect him to say yes? Daniel wondered.

“It’s my day off.”

“Oh, so why are you here now?” Part of him had assumed that she had quit but it didn’t make sense for her to quit. They hadn’t argued the previous day. He had actually allowed her to help him with his physical therapy. He had surprised himself. It hadn’t been so bad. He was normally protective about his personal space. He didn’t easily allow anyone to be close to him.

“I came to check on you,” she said.

“I am not a child, you don’t need to check on me.”

“Alright.” She put her hands up in the air as if to surrender.

“By the way, what are you wearing?” he asked her. She was wearing loose-fitting harem pants and a tight white T-shirt and flip flops. Her curly hair was tied up into a very high loose bun. As usual she wore no makeup but it wasn’t so bad because she had nice skin. She had no pimples or blemishes. She had a few freckles on her cheeks. She had an oval-shaped face.

“What is wrong with what I am wearing?” she asked. She looked at herself and then looked at Daniel.

“If you have to ask then, wow, never mind.”

“What? It’s not that bad.”

Daniel let out a laugh. “Mmhmm, okay.” He headed towards the door.

“Where are you going?” she asked. Daniel ignored her as he left his quarters. If he told her, she would probably want to escort him. He half assumed that she would rush after him but she did not. She actually just let him go.

Daniel arrived at his mother’s quarters a little while later. The maids greeted him with bows. He didn’t respond to them, he just headed straight to the patio where his mother was. She had told him she was going to have the lunch outside on the patio. His mother enjoyed lunching in the warm sun. When Daniel got onto the patio, he found his mother sitting at the marble-topped table with Lady Agaiby and two unfamiliar women. Daniel narrowed his gaze. He had a thought to turn around and go back to his quarters. He did not want to have lunch with the two strangers.

“Daniel!” his mother cried out joyfully. She rose to her feet and went to greet her son with a kiss on both cheeks. His mother was a fairly tall woman. She was fair-skinned and had high cheekbones. She had her jet-black hair pinned up in an elegant updo.

“Who are they?” Daniel asked her.

“This is Amina.” She gestured towards the brunette that had an olive skin tone and peach lipstick. “And this is Noor.” She gestured towards the woman with the jet-black hair and fair skin tone.

“Good afternoon, your highness,” both women said in a chorus. They bowed their heads to him. Daniel shrugged his shoulders and looked at his grandmother. She smiled at him and asked him to come sit by her.

His mother made small talk with the two women while the maids served their food. Daniel was just sitting there with a blank facial expression. He was still wondering who the women were and why they were there.

“Noor is Sheikh Safi’s eldest daughter, and Amina is Sheikh Badar’s second eldest daughter,” said Daniel’s mother.

“I don’t know them,” Daniel replied. His mother frowned at him for a split second.

“You know them. You’ve seen them at the cabinet meetings.”

“Okay.” He still didn’t know who they were and did not care who they were. “But what does that have to do with me?” Daniel asked.

“Daniel, don’t be rude.”

“I am just asking. I came here to have lunch with you but it turns out that we have guests. I am just wondering why.”

Lady Agaiby shook her head. “Your mother wanted to introduce you to these lovely young ladies,” she said.

“She did?” Daniel took a sip of his drink.
