“Where do you think you are going?” Daniel asked Fiona as he paused in the doorway.

“I am coming with you,” she said to him.

“Why?”

“I am your caregiver.I must go with you everywhere to make sure that you are safe.”

“I am fine. You don’t have to escort me.” Daniel sounded irritated. Just as Fiona was about to speak, he said, “And you are not my caregiver.”

Fiona offered a small smile. “This is part of my job to escort you everywhere. Let’s go. We mustn’t keep your father waiting and I am–”

Before Fiona could finish what she was saying, Daniel pressed the button on his wheelchair and glided off. She gasped at his rudeness. No matter how many times he said that she was not his caregiver or suggested that she quit, it was not going to change anything. She was his caregiver and she was not going to quit. She shook her head before she rushed after him.

They reached the king’s quarters moments later. The security outside the massive wooden door bowed their heads to Daniel. They opened the door for Daniel and Fiona. They both headed through the door and down the wide corridor. The floors were made of marble tiles. Beautiful expensive paintings hung on the wall. Fiona gasped when she recognized a painting.

“That is a Picasso!” She pointed at one of the paintings on the wall.

“Well done for recognizing a very famous painting,” Daniel said sarcastically. Fiona snickered.

“That wasn’t nice, Daniel,” she whispered. She did not want to be loud as she entered the king’s quarters.

“What?” Daniel spat out. “Did you just call me by my name? We will talk about this later,” he said sternly. Addressing Daniel by his name had come so natural for Fiona. She just smiled and rolled her eyes at his threat. She didn’t understand what the big deal was. It was not as though she had called him outside of his name.

Daniel and Fiona entered what seemed like a living room. The room was massive and had really high ceilings. There were big windows with golden window frames. Fiona trailed behind Daniel wide-eyed. The king’s quarters were absolutely amazing. The king was sitting at the expensive sofas reading some documents.

“The crown prince has arrived,” one of the maids announced to the king. He looked up from his documents.

“Good afternoon, Father,” Daniel greeted him as he came to a halt. His wheelchair was just a few feet from the king and positioned opposite him.

“Daniel.” The king smiled as he put a document down on the glass table with the golden legs. “How are you?” he asked.

Oh God, Fiona said to herself. Whenever anyone asked him how he was, Daniel would snap at them. She bit her bottom lip and waited for Daniel’s response.

“I am well,” Daniel replied. Fiona sighed silently with relief.

“Good.” The king nodded. He turned his attention to Fiona. “How are you, young lady?”

“Me?” Fiona breathed out. The king had caught her off guard. “I am well, thank you. How are you?” she replied.

“I am just fine.” He smiled as he took his reading glasses off. “So we meet again.”

“Yes we do.” Fiona laughed a little. “And this time I am not creepily lurking outside your quarters.”

“What?” Daniel turned his head and looked at Fiona with a questioning glare.
