Emma scrolled through her mailbox on her smartphone. Her eyes almost popped out of her head when she saw an e-mail from Besada Oils. She hesitated to open it for a moment. She wasn’t sure if it was an e-mail of regret or a job offer. She took a deep breath and exhaled loudly.

“What is the matter?” Madison asked her. She leaned closer to her and looked at her phone. “Aren’t you going to open it?” she asked.

“I’m scared. I really need the job. The hours are few and the pay is $1600 a month.” Emma knew that other companies would pay her much less than $1600 a month for the few hours Besada Oils was giving. However, Besada Oils was a very successful company and so they would pay their employees well.

“Let’s just see.” Madison tapped the phone screen and opened the e-mail. It read:

Dear Miss Grey,

Following your recent interview with Besada Oils, I am pleased to offer you the position of a part-time receptionist at Besada Oils.

Emma let out a squeak and almost leaped out of her chair.

“Oh my goodness, I can’t believe I got the job,” Emma cried out happily.

“I knew you would get it,” Madison replied. “Congratulations. I guess that sheikh did like you.”

“It seems that he liked what I had to say, and my employment history. I just hope that I won’t do anything embarrassing in front of him ever again.”

“You probably will.” Madison laughed a little. Emma laughed with her. She was so happy. Soon she was going to be able to help out with bills at home.

“I will just have to be very careful.”

“I wonder what it would be like working with a sheikh.”

“I won’t be working with him really. I will just be at the reception taking calls and passing messages,” Emma replied.

“I am sure that you will have to order his lunch sometimes or take guests to his office.”

“Maybe.” Emma shrugged her shoulders. Their lecturer walked into the lecture hall. Emma pulled her economics textbook out of her bag and put it on the table. She loved economics. People from her hometown thought it was strange. She was from a small town called Duncan Valley that was on the outskirts of Dallas. Not many of the girls in Duncan Valley pursued education after high school. The ones that did often studied subjects such as English, sociology and nursing. So when people in their town found out that Emma wanted to study economics, they were surprised.
