Chapter 3

Emma

Emma arrived at Besada Oils for her first shift ten minutes early. She wanted to make a good impression on her first day. This time, she changed her shoes in the car and arrived without coffee. Emma walked through the automatic glass doors to the reception desk in the lobby.

“Hello Miss Grey. I am Dania, Sheikh Besada’s secretary,” a woman greeted Jane as she approached the reception desk. Emma recognized her from when she came for the interview. She was the woman at the desk outside the sheikh’s office.

“Hello Dania.” Emma extended her hand for a handshake. “Please call me Emma."

Dania smiled and nodded. “You will be working here, at the main reception,” she said.

“Okay.” Emma nodded.

“The sheikh wanted to hire a new receptionist because our after-hours receptionist is no longer available to work Monday to Wednesday due to personal issues.”

“I see. Her loss is my gain.” Emma smiled. Dania returned her smile. She showed Emma how to transfer calls to other departments and how to use the computer. She gave Emma the relevant passwords for the computer systems.

“It’s not that busy after 5 p.m. However, we still get some calls from overseas clients. You will be required to type some reports and work some Saturdays. On Saturdays, you will have to work 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Is that okay?” said Dania.

“Yes, that is fine with me,” Emma replied.

“Here is your access card for the access gate.” Dania handed Emma the white plastic card.

“Thank you.”

“If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.”

“Do you work after five also?”

“Sometimes.”

“You said you were the sheikh’s secretary?” Emma asked.

“Yes, I am. I mostly deal with his schedule and accompany him to meetings, those kinds of things.”

“Okay.”

“I work on the fifth floor. My desk is outside the sheikh’s office, where we met when you came for your interview. Do you have any other questions?”

“No.” Emma replied with a smile.

Dania nodded before she walked off. Emma took her bag off and put it on the desk. She took a step back and squatted to sit down on the chair. Unfortunately, she was not as close to the chair as she thought she was. The chair rolled backwards and she fell flat on her buttocks. Emma let out a loud squeak.

She quickly jumped up to her feet and rubbed her sore bottom. “Ow,” she whispered. She looked up and saw Sheikh Besada looking at her as he walked into the lobby. She wondered if he had seen her fall.

“Good morning, I mean good evening, Sheikh Besada,” she greeted him.

“Hello Miss Grey,” he replied.

“Please call me Emma.”

“Emma,” he said gently. Her name sounded beautiful coming from him. He walked over to the elevator with a bodyguard behind him. Emma slowly sat down. This time she held the chair. She felt so embarrassed. She had come with determination not to embarrass herself in front of him again. However, that was the first thing she did. She just wanted to scream at the top of her lungs.

Kiro

Kiro held his laughter until he was in the elevator. He burst into laughter as he replayed the incident of Emma falling over in the lobby. She was quite a clumsy woman. The first time they had met, she had rushed into the elevator and spilled coffee all over his white shirt. She was an odd individual.
