Chapter 8

Kiro

On Sundays, Kiro usually stayed home to relax. He would stay home and listen to classical music and catch up on some reading. However, after the abduction attempt the night before, he was headed to the hospital to see Sadiq instead. He had bled from being hit in the head with a steel pipe and suffered a concussion.

“Sheikh Besada!” Sadiq sat up as Kiro walked into his hospital room.

“Sit comfortably,” Kiro said to Sadiq. He walked over and sat down on the chair by his bed. “How are you feeling?”

“I am well. Thank you for asking.”

“Good.”

“The doctor said I will be discharged tomorrow. They just wanted to keep an eye on me to make sure that I don’t have any internal bleeding,” Sadiq explained to Kiro.

“That’s good to hear,” Kiro replied.

“I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to protect you.”

“It’s not your fault. We were outnumbered.” Kiro sighed. “My mother always warned me about having one bodyguard but I was stubborn.” His mother was always worried about his safety. She did not like the fact that her only son was living on a different continent with one bodyguard. Kiro appeased her worries by her letting know that his house was well protected, and it was. There was video surveillance and security guards.

“She was very worried when you moved to Dallas,” said Sadiq.

“She still doesn’t like it. However, I have to continue with our family business. The king obviously can’t be overseeing the oil business in America. He has palace matters to attend to.”

“We have to let the king know about the kidnap attempt.”

“No, we can’t.”

“We can’t keep this from him. What if he finds out? And he probably will.”

“I don’t want him to worry, and I especially don’t want mother to find out. She will only worry and ask me to return to El Sourial at once.”

“I understand,” Sadiq replied.

“We have to find out who was behind the abduction as soon as possible. We don’t know if they will try again.”

“I will get on it at once.”

“When you get discharged and you have rested, I need you to go to El Sourial incognito. Find out as much as you can. They spoke in Arabic. So we already know that they’re Arabs. There is a possibility that it might be someone from El Sourial,” said Kiro. He trusted Sadiq a lot. He knew that Sadiq was the best man for the job. He wanted it to be incognito because he did not want to spook the person behind the abduction. If they knew that Kiro was looking into it, they would cover their tracks.

“Yes, sheikh, but what about you?” Sadiq asked. “Who will protect you when I’m gone?”

“I’ve taken up two guards from my home. They’re good,” he replied. Sadiq nodded.

“I will just speak to them and make sure they’re adequately trained before I leave.”

Kiro smiled and nodded. “Okay,” he replied.

Kiro was on his way home just after six on Monday. As he headed out of the elevator, he could see Emma sitting at the reception desk. She was unharmed, thankfully. She had blocked the exit with her car and stopped the abduction. If it wasn’t for her, the men that had attacked Sadiq would have successfully kidnapped Kiro.

“Sheikh Besada,” Emma said as she rose to her feet. “How are you?” she asked.

“I’m fine,” he replied. She was full of surprises. He thought she was just a clumsy and talkative woman. She had surprised him with her braveness. She had been brave but reckless.

“Leaving already?” she asked him.
