I hesitate to answer correctly. I don’t think Sean is even worthy of an introduction, but I have my own vendetta against Marc right now, so I decide to make him wonder. Maybe if he feels like it’s easy for me to move on from him, he’ll be more flexible with keeping me a secret.

“This is Sean,” I say nonchalantly.

Marc doesn't respond and neither does Sean. They just continue to stare at each other like they’re ready to have a throw down in front of everyone. If I'm being completely honest, it kind of turns me on to see Marc show a hint of jealousy.

“We were just having a bite to eat,” I say. “I’ll be in the office tomorrow if you’d like to talk.”

He smirks and exhales the frustration built in his chest. I know he wants to ask more questions about who Sean is, but he won’t let his guard down in front of who he thinks may be his competition.

“Okay then,” he says. “I guess I'll see you in the office tomorrow. Enjoy your lunch.”

“I will. Thanks.”

Marc walks away and I immediately feel guilty. I'm not sure why I feel so much guilt, but I do. What I thought would be a prideful moment for myself has turned out to be completely useless. Because I want to go after Marc.

“Who was that guy?” Sean asks.

I'm so busy trying to flag down my waitress so that I can grab my tab, I almost forget to answer his question.

“He owns the company I work for now,” I say, scurrying to gather my things.

“Do you two have something going on?” Sean scoffs. “The way he looked just now looked a bit personal.”

I won’t give Sean the satisfaction of answering that one. Instead, I hand the waitress my card and wait for her to return for my signature.

“I guess that’s a yes,” he says. “Wow. So soon, huh?”

“So soon?” I frown. “You were literally cheating on me, and you’re worried about who I may or may not have something going on with? Ha!”

I quickly sign my bill, grab my coat and head for the door. Sean's right on my heels, after snagging a bite of the leftover burger and fries on my plate, trying to get his point across. I don’t care to hear any of it or how he feels about me moving on. He should have thought about that before he decided to step out on our relationship.

“Will you think about lending me the money?” he asks, following me to my car. “Please. I'll make sure I pay you back this time. I just need a little bit of breathing room.”

“Sean,” I sigh. “I’m not lending you anymore money. Figure it out. Goodbye.”

The minute my door shuts, I call Marc. I don’t want him to think anything of my interaction with Sean today. At first, I did. But I realize it’s not worth having any bad blood over. I actually like what Marc and I have going on and would love for it to continue. Even if it’s just sex at the moment.

“Yeah?” he answers coldly.

“Wow,” I say. “Someone sounds angry.”

The phone goes silent. I expect him to speak about how he feels, but he only waits for me to say why I'm calling.

“Sorry about that back there,” I say. “My introduction and goodbye were kind of rude. But seriously, Sean isn't someone worth an introduction to. He's my ex and he came all the way here to ask me for money. Go figure.”

I hear a light chuckle come from Marc’s end of the phone. It makes me nervous. I feel like he’ll say he doesn't want anything else to do with me and make me pack my office up and clear the premises. He's an older man, normally, they’re not the ones interested in playing games.

“I figured that was him,” he says. “He really had the audacity to ask you for money? What a waste of a man.”

“Tell me about it.” I let out a sigh of relief at the softness in his voice. “Are you busy right now? Maybe we can get together for an afternoon delight.”

“I’m actually on my way to the airport. I have a business meeting to get to, but we can catch up once I'm back in town.”

Chapter Twelve - Marc

Kyle is on to us. He stopped me before leaving for my flight and asked me flat out if Felicia and I were sleeping together. His tone says he knows, he only needs the proof. Things got heated between us because he thinks us sleeping together is the only reason I gave her the job as director of marketing.

My son fails to realize where he lacks and that’s a huge problem for me. Have I raised him with too much privilege? Have I created a monster by picking up his slack every time he falls short? I'm beginning to think that trying to pave a way for him with ease was a bad idea. Then again, I can’t knock him because he is right. Felicia and I are sleeping together.
