Saying that Kunal pushed Ranveer off the cliff.

“Ranveer—” Maya woke up in a jolt, shuddering. The room was dark, the candles burned out, the scent of roses on their bed faded.

“Maya. It's okay, I'm here,” Ranveer's voice soothed as he turned on the lamp and pulled her into his embrace.

When he'd come to their room late that night, she was already asleep in her wedding attire. Not wanting to wake her up, he'd laid down beside her. But her cry and shudder shattered his peaceful slumber.

“It was a dream,” he whispered, rubbing her back.

Composing herself, Maya raised her head to see his face, confirming her nightmare wasn't real. Touching his cheeks, his chest where she'd seen blood, Maya sought proof of his life. Sensing her distress, Ranveer kissed her fingers, raising her hand. Though tired and dull, she was still the prettiest bride.

“Trying to scare me on our first night for coming late?” he teased.

She recalled waiting for him when Kunal appeared, fueling fears about harming Ranveer. Absorbed in those thoughts, she'd dozed off, the nightmare conjured by her subconscious.

“Speak to me,” Ranveer urged, cupping her face.

Catching his wrist, she demanded fiercely, “Don't ever leave me.”

“Maya, I-”

“Don’t give me any excuses,” she hit his arm. “I didn’t marry you so that you can vanish without a word. Where had you been? Why didn’t you tell me? Do you realize what I went through all these hours?”

She would have continued the banter had Ranveer not scooped her face in between his palms and kissed her then and there. She kept murmuring even during the kiss and when she couldn’t contain her anger even after that, she pulled away and gently slapped his cheek.

“Don't try to curb my anger with a kiss.”

Stunned by the slap, Ranveer knew he deserved it for ruining their wedding night.

“I'm sorry, Angel,” he said repentantly. Her anger dissipated.

“I don't want your sorry, I want you,” she replied gently.

His lips twitched in a smile. She needs him?

“I was dying to hear that,” he murmured palming her cheek again.

Pouting at her unnecessary slap, Maya touched his face. “Did it hurt?”

“Very,” he smirked.

“Liar.” She slapped his cheek playfully this time.

“For every slap, I’m going to spank you, baby.” He teased biting her earlobe and Maya stiffened. Spank her?

Seeing her in distressed, Ranveer chuckled and drawing her onto his chest, he laid back on the bed, holding his wife close. They reveled silently in the peace of being together, feeling their each other’s presence.

“That red file which I found at Malik’s study—” he continued.

“Hmm.”

“I handed it over as proof of all the fraud Dev Malik has been committing all these years with his clients.”

Maya glanced at his face, recalling that Ranveer had managed to retrieve the file from Malik Mansion.

“What kind of frauds?” she inquired.

“All sorts. He had been billing his clients incorrectly, evading taxes, taking bribes, blackmailing… huh,” he sighed in disgust. “That man has committed all sorts of crimes, enough to put him behind bars soon.”
