As the pheras ended, Ranveer gazed back at his wife and, pulling her closer, kissed her forehead. It was a heady feeling for Maya but something she really wanted the world to see. Ranveer Malhotra belonged to her, and she to him. Everyone out there who never wanted them together could see them and burn in jealousy; she didn’t care.

***************

Maya waited anxiously in the bedroom, her gaze fixed on the door, anticipating her husband's arrival. After a long day filled with rituals and guests, their wedding ceremony had finally concluded, sparking a newfound passion and love between them. His playful flirting during their reception had hinted at what the night held in store, leaving her eager to spend every moment wrapped in his embrace. It was difficult to pinpoint exactly when her feelings for him had intensified or when she had begun to fall for him. Now fully immersed in these emotions, even the slightest delay in their time together felt like an eternity.

The door creaked open, then closed softly. He had arrived. Finally! Despite her eagerness for his presence, she hesitated to turn around, uncertain of how to respond now that he was here.

“You look ravishing.” Maya jolted at that familiar voice.

“You? What are you doing in my room?” Maya turned around and asked Kunal, who had barged into her bedroom.

“Careful, Maya. You don’t want to grab the attention of outsiders, do you?”

Maya sighed in frustration. She didn’t understand what to do. Was she still going to pretend to be on Malik’s side?

“Why are you here, Kunal?”

“To remind you. I hope you remember we are on the same side.”

Maya clenched her fingers.

“This is not the right time to discuss this, Kunal. Ranveer will be here any moment.”

“No, he won’t. He has gone out.”

“What?”

“Yes… I saw him leaving the hotel a few minutes back. He won’t be coming soon. So, I thought, why not entertain you until he returns.”

Kunal’s unnecessary teasing was a headache.

“You entertained me a lot. Now leave.”

Kunal chuckled.

“Alright. But tomorrow evening, when you are back in Delhi, we should meet and discuss the further plans.”

“Plans?” She swallowed hard.

“Yes, plans,” he smiled. “Now that you are legally his wife, you are the only one who can get us what we want.”

She was confused.

“What do you want from him?”

“Everything,” Kunal winked at her, which irked her again.

“Kunal, be specific. What is your plan?”

“Easy, girl.” He tried to clutch her arm, but she shrugged him off and stepped back. “You will know when you meet us in Delhi. Till then, enjoy your time with your husband.”

He walked out of the room, leaving Maya stunned. These Maliks would not let Ranveer live in peace. What did they want from him? It was high time she told everything to Ranveer before the Maliks messed up again. But where had Ranveer gone now? What could be more urgent than being together tonight?

Chapter 56

Kunal tugged Ranveer’s collar and pushed him away. Ranveer was bleeding, his body weighed down with fatigue. His shirt had stains of blood everywhere.

“Goodbye, Ranveer Malhotra. Your life ends here.”
