Maya didn’t say anything.

“What have you told Ranveer?” he poked again, and this time his voice was dangerous.

Maya maintained a calm posture.

“I didn’t tell him anything because if I had, you two would have been behind bars.”

Kunal clenched his jaw.

“Don’t lie, Maya.”

“I don’t need to certify you, Kunal. But just remember one thing. I am doing this of my own will.”

“I can’t believe a woman like you would ever date a man like Ranveer Malhotra. What happened to your morals?”

“Sold them,” she snapped, picking another glass of drink offered to her by the waiter in between their talk.

Kunal was speechless.

“Impossible,” he sighed.

“I realized I was wrong not to accept the money you offered me. It would have cured my mother years back. But look at fate? It willingly gave me another chance to rectify. I happened to meet Ranveer during one of my projects, and you know how he is.” She faked a chuckle. “Didn’t take long to lure him, and here we are. Together. I get enough money from him to look after my mother. What else do I need?”

Kunal somehow believed her now and smiled sipping the drink.

“Smart,” he praised. “What if I still kept my offer open? Would you have accepted it this time?”

Maya gulped her drink and rolled her eyes.

“I don’t see a reason why I should cheat on him.”

“Oh, come on,” Kunal interrupted. “I'm not asking you to become my girlfriend. Just provide the information we needed about Ranveer from the past. That's all. I'll double the amount he's offering you. Would that persuade you to accept it?”

Maya faked a smile. These people only knew how to use their power of money. They could stoop so low, which she could not even imagine.

“I will think about it,” Maya said.

Kunal nodded.

“Call me when you are sure about this.” He gave his card to her, and she accepted it.

“Hey,” Ranveer purposely came to them and stood next to Maya. “Stealing my girl?” he asked throwing a glare at Kunal.

“Just for a while,” Kunal replied.

“Not allowed. What's mine stays mine,” Ranveer gripped her waist making Maya uncomfortable. It wasn’t Ranveer’s touch that she felt uncomfortable of, but this entire situation between him, her and Kunal Malik.

Kunal raised his arms in defeat.

“Alright, enjoy the party then,” he walked away with a pleasant smile. He had to share this news that Maya gave him, with his father and he couldn't wait for the party to be over.

The moment Kunal was out of their sight, Maya removed the earpiece and pushing Ranveer away, she sprinted out, feeling breathless.

Chapter 15

“Maya,” Ranveer called out, chasing her in the garden outside. She didn’t stop. “Maya, wait,” he screamed again.

She finally stopped and crossed her arms in front, trying to breathe in as much air as possible. Ranveer reached her, and holding her elbow, he turned her around.
