Shocked by the revelation, Maya felt relieved knowing that once Dev Malik was imprisoned, his son Kunal wouldn’t be able to harm them as much.

“That’s why I had to leave urgently for a while tonight… to deliver that file to the relevant authorities who can build a strong case against Dev Malik,” he explained.

Maya pouted again, feeling sorry for misjudging him when he was late.

“And what about the evidence you were actually searching for? The ones related to your mother’s death?” she inquired.

Ranveer shrugged disappointedly.

“I didn’t find anything like that. But the file contained a CD, an old one. It didn’t play when I inserted it into the drive, but I’ve given it to someone to examine. I don’t know what it contains.”

Maya propped herself up on her elbows, openly admiring him as he continued discussing Dev Malik's imminent downfall and his anticipation of it. It dawned on her that she had underestimated the power of the man she was married to. What she now saw in him was a side that only a few people knew existed. He may have been alone, but he wasn't helpless; he simply needed someone to confide in, someone to lend an ear, which was exactly what she was doing in that moment. He possessed strength, yet he required someone to bolster him during moments of weakness. He could be manipulative, yet he yearned for someone to strategize alongside him and stand by his side against all odds, just as she had promised to do. And she had begun to love those aspects of him. While he continued speaking, she couldn't ignore the allure of his lips. Her eyes sparkled with intention, and she planted a kiss on his jaw. Instantly, Ranveer ceased talking, their eyes locking.

“Don’t look at me like that,” she warned.

“Why?” he asked.

“It does something to me,” she answered seriously.

His dark eyes sparkled again as he pulled her close, kissing her passionately. She responded with equal fervor, her body trembling in his arms. Ranveer could hardly believe this was finally their wedding night. After so much pining and waiting, Maya was at last his wife. As they kissed deeply, Ranveer slid his hands up her back, fingers tracing the intricate knotwork of her choli strings. He ached to see her without the heavy bridal finery, to feast his eyes on her bare skin.

Maya sighed against his mouth, equally desperate for him. She had slept fitfully in her wedding jewelry and heavy silk lehenga, dreaming of the moment it would all come off. Ranveer gently turned her, brushing her hair over one shoulder to access the choli laces. With excruciating slowness, he untied each knot, punctuating it with open-mouthed kisses down her neck and bare back. Maya trembled under his ministrations, liquid heat pooling in her core.

When the choli finally loosened, Ranveer slid it off her shoulders worshipping her body with more kisses and nibbles. Maya shyly crossed her arms over her chest, but Ranveer tenderly drew them away.

“Don’t hide,” he rasped, voice husky with desire. Maya flushed, unused to such adoration. “You're beautiful.”

He kissed down her shoulders to the valley between her breasts while Maya buried her hands in his hair, gasping as he worshipped her with his mouth.

He then gently removed her waist chain, taking time to kiss every inch of her newly exposed skin. By the time he was done, Maya was flushed and panting.

“I've dreamed of this moment for so long,” he murmured. Maya answered by finding his mouth again, kissing him ardently. Their hands roved urgently over each other, but before they could shed the last barriers between them, Maya's morning alarm rang out loudly.

She broke their deep kiss with a regretful sigh, lightly pushing Ranveer away.

“I have to get ready for the temple with Daadi,” she explained apologetically.

Ranveer pulled her close, burying his face in the crook of her neck.

“Cancel it,” he demanded biting her soft flesh of her neck.

“I can’t.”

Ranveer groaned in frustration, rolling onto his back. It was their first night together after the wedding and they had barely begun exploring each other.

“It's your family tradition for the new bride to perform a special ritual in the temple before sunrise after the wedding day.” Maya continued. “I have promised Daadi.”

Propping himself up on an elbow, Ranveer caressed her face. “You hardly slept, angel. I’ll ask Daadi to do this tomorrow instead.”

But Maya shook her head, unwilling to go against Daadi's wishes on such an important ritual. She leaned in to give Ranveer a lingering kiss, savoring the feel of his mouth on hers.

“I'll rest this afternoon when I'm back,” she assured him. “It's your fault for not coming to me sooner last night.”

Ranveer sighed, knowing she was right. If only he had come earlier instead of dealing with the other pressing matters.

Maya slowly disentangled herself from his embrace and headed to the bathroom.

“Maya, don’t go,” he groaned behind her from the bed but both of them knew that was no longer in their hands. They both didn’t want to upset Daadi who was so peculiar of following all the traditions.
