Saro met my gaze and mouthed, “I told you so.”

I shook my head as I guided Kennedy away from the entrance.

Birds chirped from their homes on tree branches. The smell of sweet flowers filled the air. I peeked at the clear sky. The sun felt like it was on steroids. It was so hot. Hard to believe it was still morning.

“I smell flowers.” She came to an abrupt halt in the nude-colored stilettos.

“Franco, what’s going on?”

“Keep walking, Kennedy.”

When we reached the bridge, she stopped again. “I’m standing on wood. Franco,” she huffed.

“Ok, just a few more steps.” I led her to the middle of the bridge.

“I’ll remove the blindfold, but don’t open your eyes yet. Kennedy, I am serious.”

“Ok, I won’t open my eyes.”

I removed the blindfold and shoved it into my inner jacket pocket. Kneeling on one knee, I slipped the red box from my slacks pocket and peered up at her. I blew out a breath, then popped open the box.

“Kennedy, you can open your eyes.”

Her eyes widened as she gasped. “Oh my God, Franco!”

Kennedy’s shimmering gold plump lips were fucking kissable. Damn, I had to keep my erection at bay. Now wasn’t the time.

“Franco, you planned this?”

“Yes, I did. The garden is ours for an hour. A tear slipped down her cinnamon-colored cheek.

Tugging her left hand, I brought her palm to my lips briefly. “The way we met wasn’t typical. You definitely kept me on my toes. We forced an entire ‘get to know you session’ into a course of three weeks. My grandfather was twenty-two when he noticed my grandmother across the street at a little coffee shop in Santorini, Greece. He walked over and struck up a conversation. They were married a month later. And they’ve been married for sixty-two years.Sometimes people know each other for years, get married, then years later they get a divorce. The point I’m making is when you find the person you love, follow your gut. What does your inner self tell you?” I patted a hand over my heart.

“She’s mine I said. I have to make her mine. I can’t let this woman go.” I grinned.

“We will go through our share of ups and downs. Maybe more downs than ups for a while. But I believe we’ll be happier together. Kennedy, we fit. Your sharp tongue and my brooding demeanor.”

She chuckled. “That’s an accurate description of us.”

“I want our sons to witness first-hand the importance of treating a woman special. Teach our daughter that a man must protect, honor, and love her. My parents loved each other. I know what love should look like. Over the years, it was easier to shut it out rather than open myself up to love. Then you fell into my lap. Forced me to open my heart. Kennedy Aneira Carter, will you marry me?”

Kennedy nodded. “Yes!” she brought a trembling hand to her cheek to wipe the tears away.

“Don’t dry your face,” I demanded.

“I’ll take care of it.”

I slid the fifteen-carat square-cut diamond ring onto her ring finger. Pulling her into my lap, I kissed her face, feasting on her tears. “Every part of you belongs to me. I’ll take care of you for the rest of our lives.”

I stood, pulling her with me. With one hand on her waist, I walked her backward until her back hit the wooden railing. Caressing her face, I ferociously took her lips. She nipped at my lips before shoving her tongue inside to tussle with mine. I bet we looked like two wild animals kissing ready to fuck each other’s brains out.

Reluctantly, I pulled back, chest heaving.

She brushed two fingers over her lips. “I’m so fucking wet,” Kennedy purred, staring up at me.

Her eyes landed on my cock. “And you’re so hard.”

Bonnie cleared her throat from where she stood at the beginning of the bridge. “Franco?”
