“So, Luca, where did you learn to bake so well?” Adão asks.

“Stress,” Luca answers easily.

“Huh?” Seb looks up from his recipe.

Luca nods. “Stress baking, it’s a thing. Great coping strategy, and you get to learn a valuable skill.”

Adão nods slowly. “Alright then.”

I take a drink of my beer and watch as Luca mixes up icing in a bowl. My mind wanders to the last time he went on a baking bender, and the reason for it.

How far we’ve come…

He dips a finger into the bowl of white icing, bringing it up to his lips. My eyes follow, as his stay on me. I’m vaguely aware of Seb chattering away about measuring cups as Luca’s tongue comes out and slowly licks the icing from his finger.

“What’s happening here?” Seb pulls my attention away, as he looks between me and Luca.

“Oh, nothing, Seb. Was just about to offer Ty some icing.” Luca dips another finger in the icing and holds it out to me. “Unless you’re all full up on icing from this morning?”

Adão and Seb both quietly watch us as I glare at Luca, and he just laughs. He then licks it off himself, and I adjust in my seat as, yeah… that’s fucking hot.

Luca thankfully sets the icing aside and turns to Seb. “We need a rolling pin.”

He nods seriously and glances around his kitchen. “Yeah. What’s that?”

“Oh my god,” Luca mutters. “Really?”

Adão tips his head back on a laugh as Seb shrugs. “I’ve never baked before!”

I chuckle as I watch them search the kitchen for something to use, and the best thing they can find is a beer bottle.

“Ok,” Luca sighs as he sets the beer bottle beside the dough. “Dare I ask if you have cookie cutters?”

Seb shakes his head. “Probably shouldn’t.”

“Oh my god!” Luca throws his hands in the air. “You wanted to bake cookies!”

“I’ve never baked before!” Seb opens his hands wide, looking overwhelmed.

A laugh bubbles out of me as I take in their exasperation. Luca settles on a knife to cut out their cookies, and after a long and difficult process of rolling the dough out with a beer bottle, they’re hunched over the dough with their knives.

Adão furrows his brow at Seb as he proudly cuts out a shape that doesn’t look like anything.

“It’s a tree,” he says, matter-of-factly.

“Hm,” Adão nods and turns to me with a wince, pulling a chuckle from me.

“So, when do you guys think you’ll get back into the gym?” Seb asks as he leans over his dough to cut out another cookie.

I shrug. “I haven’t stopped.”

Luca huffs and rolls his eyes. “Yeah, we had to go this morning, can you believe it? Not even one day off.”

Seb looks up from his cookies and glances between us. “You went this morning?” A small smile forms on his lips. “Like… this morning?”

Adão ignores him and gives me a smile. “What did you work on?”

“Just went for a run and did some weights,” I say.
