“I mean, fine, it was larger than it should be because he doesn’t deserve to have one.”

“That amazing?”

I groan. “Oh my gosh. I sound like a fool.”

“No, you don’t. You sound like someone that got loved real good.”

“Trust me, there was nothing loving about what we did.”

“It was giving, though, huh?” She winks at me, and I shake my head.

“I’m not talking about this anymore. Nope, nope, nope.” I look down at my phone and see that Danny has texted me. “Oh, hold on a second, let me see what Danny wants. He may want me to babysit for Frannie again.”

“He really counts on you a lot.”

“I know, but he doesn’t have anyone else that he trusts as much as me. And you know, poor Frannie.”

“I know Frannie’s mom ran out.” Isabel holds her hands up. “Look, I’m not trying to be insensitive to the fact that the girl lost her mom, but you are not the surrogate mom, and he doesn’t even pay you that well, does he?”

“I mean, he pays okay.” I sigh. “Actually, he doesn’t want me to babysit,” I say, looking at the text message. “He wants to know what I’m doing tomorrow evening.”

“Oh, well, you’re busy, right?” Isabel stares at me, and I just nod slowly.

“Fine. I will come to the speed-dating event, but I don’t expect anything to come of it.”

“Okay. And if it doesn’t, then maybe you can just meet up with Colton.”

“I thought we were calling him BB.”

“I thought you didn’t want to call him BB.”

“Actually, let’s call him BB.”

“Oh yeah. And why is that? What made you change your mind?” she asks.

“I don’t want to call him BB for big boss. I want to call him BB for blue balls.”

“Oh my gosh. What?”

“It’s an inside joke. One that I don’t want to talk about right now.” I think back to Colton and the way I left him the evening before. “Let’s just say he’s not going to be asking me to buy him condoms anytime soon.”

“He what?” she asks, and I just giggle.

“Now show me more information about this event so I know what I’m getting myself into.”

“You look so hot,” Isabel says as I meet her outside of the club where the speed-dating event is going to be held. “Mamacita, you are smoking.”

“Thank you. You’re not looking so bad yourself,” I say as I stare at her in her slinky red dress. “We are definitely both fire.”

“Oh yeah, we are,” she says. “All the other women are going to be so jealous because we are going to get all the hotties if there are any hotties,” I say. “Shall we go inside?”

“Let’s do it. Oh my gosh. I’m so excited. Aren’t you?”

“No, I think I need a drink or two, and this time, at least, I know I’m not wearing a mask when no one else is.”

“What does that have to do with anything?” she asks curiously.
