“That are wrecked on our beach.”

“Ah, back to the treasure.” There was a smug look on his face again, and it ruffled her feathers.

“Go away,” Faith hissed.

“No, I’m with you on this one,” he said. “The locals scuttled that ship for a reason; if they missed the treasure…” He shrugged. “I’m interested.”

“Those who find get to keep,” Faith said, frowning.

“You don’t play well with others, do you?”

Faith straightened as if she was wearing a boned corset. “I do just fine.”

“But, I’m guessing the people who play with you don’t.”

“As I said before – go away,” Faith hissed.

“Your wish, my command,” Lex said, disappearing as fast as his vampire abilities could carry him.

Faith looked at the shipwreck, still visible in the pale moonlight. Then she rolled her eyes and turned on a dime to head for her car. She was going to find that treasure and prove everyone wrong on so many levels it wasn’t even funny, but she was sure to have the last laugh.

CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

~

“Wait!” Evie said, desperately trying to drag the air into her lungs that she hadn’t noticed she’d needed while kissing him back.

Parker reluctantly pulled back, but he wasn’t letting go. He had his mate in his arms and intended to keep her there. “Too soon?”

“Yeah!” Evie said, but that didn’t chime well within her. It didn’t feel rushed, it felt right, and that scared her. “Well– yeah.” She nodded in agreement with herself.

“I can wait forever,” Parker said, but his wolf growled within him, reminding him that he really couldn’t.

Evie liked the sentiment, but she knew that wasn’t true. His beast would already be clawing within him to secure their mate, and Parker had to feel that pressure cooker too. “You expect me to believe that?”

“Nope,” Parker said with a slow shake of his head.

“Good, because a relationship based on lies…”

“I wouldn’t lie to you…”

“You just did.”

“That was a little … fib, but it’s not like I’m going to pressure you into something you don’t want.”

“That’s the problem!” Evie said, stepping back and breaking the contact between them. She immediately felt cold, not because she didn’t have his body heat around her anymore; it was a warm night, and her body could do just fine on its own, but her body was mourning the loss of his touch already, and that wasn’t normal.

Parker scowled. “You want me to pressure you?”

“Nope!” Evie shook her head.

“I’m lost here, you’re speaking woman, and I’m full of testosterone,” Parker replied.

Evie couldn’t help but smile, and it looked wicked from where he was standing. “I noticed.”

“Help a guy out, draw me a map, give me a clue?” He raised his hands and shrugged hard. “Should I throw you over my shoulder and carry you off?”

Evie had to wonder why that thought, that image in her mind felt so damn appealing. “Do you want a kick in the balls?” She was admitting nothing.
