“Ready-made family,” Faith said, lifting her coffee cup to her wicked smile. “I’d say that’s a good result all around.”

“Only because you’re not the witch in the firing line,” Amy said, chuckling.

“That too,” Faith said with a mischievous grin.

Dani shifted uncomfortably in her seat. “Poor Evie, I don’t know what I’d do if that were me.”

“We thought it was you,” Faith said.

Dani looked surprised. “Huh? When?”

“Yesterday,” Hope said. “We were all checking out the guy we thought was your mate.”

“And nobody thought to tell me about it?” Dani asked, her voice pitching higher. “I thought you all had my back?”

“In truth,” True said. “We had your back, we checked him out, but you can’t fight fate…”

“But you can kill your mate,” Faith said, happy in her own little world.

True shot her sister a glare. “So, we thought it was probably better to let fate take control than have you run for the hills.”

“Or cower under a duvet,” Faith said.

Dani scowled. “Well, if there is a next time and you think it’s me, just let me know. I do wear big girl pants.”

“I know; I’ve seen them in the washing,” Faith said. “You should try a thong; so liberating.”

“Yeah, if you like a wedgy,” True shot back.

Faith snorted a chuckle. “If you had your way, we’d all still be wearing bloomers.”

“Less is more?” True asked, raising her eyebrows at her sister.

“Something like that,” Faith said.

“More uncomfortable,” True said.

“We need to get to work,” Hope said, pushing to her feet.

“What about Evie?” Dani asked.

“She’s a big girl; she knows where the bar is,” Hope replied.

“And she’ll call if she needs us to break heads,” Amy said.

After getting dressed and presentable for the day, Evie crept downstairs and caught the scent on the air, and it smelled good. She followed her nose and found Jennifer and Parker in the kitchen. Jennifer was sitting at the small table, and Parker had his back to her as he stood at the counter.

The smell of the coffee in the air was like bears to honey for Evie, and she went to take a step, but Jennifer spoke first. “Your wolf is cute and very good at catching a ball.”

“You’ve never met my wolf,” Parker said. “How would you know?”

“I’ve seen him in my dreams,” Jennifer whispered as if it was a secret. Evie wondered if she was going to hear about the child’s dreams. “How much do you like Aunt Evie?”

Evie felt a rush of awareness go through her, and she felt like bolting back upstairs, but her feet wouldn’t move. It felt sort of wrong to eavesdrop, but it also felt very right.

“I don’t know her yet,” Parker said.
