“What’s not to love?” Lex said, grinning.

Faith leant over the rail and eyed the vampire with amusement. “Well, now we get to have all the fun, and you’re barred.” She was backing her sister’s play, even if things would be a little quieter without the vampire to pick on in the bar. “Bad vampire.”

Lex shrugged. “You’re loss,” he said. “Nobody wants to know why that ship is closer?” He turned and started walking away.

“Wait!” True yelled, a little louder than needed considering he had excellent hearing and wasn’t far away.

Lex turned back with a teasing grin. “Yes?”

“You know why the ship looks closer?”

“It doesn’t look closer; it is closer,” Lex informed her.

“I knew it!” True said and elbowed Faith with annoyance. “You tempted fate!”

“How did I tempt fate when I tempted fate?” Faith asked, confused.

“I don’t know, but it wasn’t me,” True said.

Faith rolled her eyes and leant over the railing. “You wanna tell us why it’s closer before this nutjob looks even more paranoid and crazy?” she asked.

“That depends,” Lex said with a devilish grin.

“On if you’re a decent human being or not?” True said. “Oh, wait, not,” she added.

“See, it’s mean girl stuff like that I don’t respond to,” Lex said. “Catch you later.”

“Wait!” Faith said, knowing her sister would be fretting and driving everyone crazy over the whole ship thing if she didn’t find out.

“Yes?” Lex said, laughter in his eyes and amusement in his tone as he sensed victory.

“Fine,” Faith said. “What do you want – and don’t sayblood!” she whispered the last word and still tossed a look around her to make sure nobody had overheard.

“I want not to be barred because I think it’s a big overreaction from the mean witch,” Lex said, pointing to True and shrugging.

Faith looked at True and could see her sister mulling that one over. It would all depend on how much True wanted to know why the ship was gaining ground on them and if she knewher sister … “Fine,” True said, and Faith nodded, just as she expected True had caved without a fight.

“Don’t ever take up poker,” Faith whispered and got a scowl from her sister in return.

“You’re not barred,” True said begrudgingly.

Lex reached up and grabbed the railing; with a fast yank, he was up and over it and standing on the decking beside them. “Solar eclipse and spring tides, that’s a heady mixture.”

“Wait – what?” True asked, turning towards him, but he was already heading into the bar.

“But isn’t it like welded to the bottom of the ocean or something?” Faith asked.

“Like the Titanic?” True said.

Lex stopped just before the door and turned a look of curiosity over his shoulder. “The Titanic is on the bottom of the ocean, but it’s not welded there, and that ship.” He pointed, and True looked back over her shoulder at the wreck. “Is in the sand, it moves, bobs, and weaves, and one day it could get pulled out to sea, but today, tomorrow and the next, it will go with the high tides.”

“And they are rolling in?” True asked.

“Gonna be a big swell; you might even be able to fish off this decking,” Lex said.

“What?” True asked, but the vampire was gone. She turned to her sister and raised her eyebrows expectantly.

“Don’t give me that look. Do I look like I know anything about the sea, swells, tides, and boats?” Faith asked.
