CHAPTER

Lily

As we rode along insilence, I couldn't help but to sneak peeks at Gustavo and wonder what my past connection was with him. I finally lost the battle of keeping my mouth shut with my questions, like he told me to, and asked. “How did I know you before?”

He turned to look at me. “What?”

“What roll did you play in my past? How is it I know you? I think you at least owe me that much.”

“Owe you?” He chuckled. “You're right, I can at least tell you that much, I guess. I used to work closely with your father. One might even say we were business partners at one point.”

“But you're not anymore?”

He gave me a cold hard stare that sent chills down my spine before looking back out the windshield. No, we're not.”

“Can I ask why? And if you're not, and supposedly my own sister hired you to kill me, why would you help me?”

He smirked at my question. “Let's just say I have plans of my own.”

“What does that mean?”

“You'll soon find out, but not until I get you somewhere safe.”

“You know, you tend to speak in riddles a lot.” I folded my arms, frustrated with his non-answers to my questions.

He suddenly chuckled. “Trust me. I will make everything crystal clear for you very soon, Lillian.”

“Well I don't trust you.”

“You will when you see that I'm the only thing standing between you and death.”

“Why couldn't Vance and Brice know about you taking me somewhere safe?”

Watching his jaw clinch like he was getting angry at my questions, he seemed to pull his calming mask back into place once again before he answered. “Because they can't protect you the way I can.”

Looking at him closely, I kept pushing just to see his reaction to my questions. “Can I call them when we get to where we're going at least. Just so they know I'm okay?”

“No!” He practically shouted, causing what felt like the whole car to vibrate from his voice as he slammed his closed fist down on the center console, making me jump. “No more questions or I'm going to gag you, got it?!” He barked out.

Feeling that fear rising up in my stomach like bile, the voice inside my head began to scream out at me again that something was seriously wrong here and Gustavo had no intention of being my saviour, only my captor. I knew I needed to figure out a way to get away from him the first chance I got.

“I'm apologize, Lillian.” He suddenly said a few moments later, surprising me. Looking over at him, he continued. “This has been very trying for me. I don't usually go against my clients and what they pay me to do. But I've always been fond of you and couldn't stomach the idea of being the one to end your life.”

Watching him for a moment, I could see that he appeared to be telling me the truth from what I could tell, but I still

didn't think I could trust him, so instead I played along. “It's okay. How much longer do we have until we get to where we are going?”

“The helicopter is waiting for us at the Port now to take us to where we're going.”

“Which is?”

“Somewhere safe.” Was all he told me, again!

A little while later he finally got off the highway and headed towards the Port, he said we were going to meet the helicopter at. Once he parked the car, I looked up to see a rather large man with a gun on his belt approaching my side of the car. Looking over at me, Gustavo grabbed a hold of my chin to meet his beautiful ice-cold eyes. “This man is going to take us to my island now.” Leaning in like he was going to kiss me, I pulled away from him when suddenly he gripped my hair on the back of my head, painfully jerking me closer towards him. “See, you are mine to do what I want with now, my pet.”

My eyes widen in horror at his words. “What? I thought you were helping me?”
