CHAPTER

Vance

“I don't think thisguy even lives here anymore. None of the neighbors have seen him for weeks. The only one that had any information was the old woman down the block that said he was ‘escorted’ by some men in black suits a week or so ago into a town car. She did say that they brought him back, though, and then he left in his own car after that and hasn't been back since.” Brice told me as we walked back over to the car.

“Well we know who he's been with, but I would have liked to catch him alone.” I got out just before my phone went off. Pulling it out of my pocket, I looked to see who it was. “Hey Kelan, what's up?” I answered, putting him on speaker.

“We have movement on Lily’s ring.”

“Really? I didn't get any texts from her, saying she was going anywhere.” I looked down at my phone, finding nothing from her before sending her a text.

Vance: Are you ok?

“Well she has, and it shows she's on I-90 right now headed towards what looks to be the warehouse district.” Looking over to Brice I saw the same concern on his face that I knew shows through clearly on mine. “We’re headed that way now.” We both got into the car as Brice started it up and headed out onto the freeway. “Send me the images of where she's headed and when she stops give us a call.”

“Do you need me to send out Carter and Hudson?”

“I don't like the looks of this, brother. I think we need to call in some back-up,” Brice said, echoing my own thoughts.

“I agree.” I told Brice. “Tell Carter and Hudson to take the next flight out and rent a car then call me when they’ve hit the ground running.”

“Got it.”

“What the hell do you think Camilla is up to now?” I asked Brice.

“Or is it Gustavo coming back to re-claim her?”

“Fuck! I will...” My phone ringing cut me off. Looking at the caller ID it said unknown. “Hello?”

“It's Vitale.”

“What the fuck are you calling me for? Haven't you caused enough...”

“Look! She's missing! Lillian is missing,” he blurted out, cutting my rant off.

“When?”

“About a half hour ago now.” As I listened to him explain everything that happened, I had Brice try texting and calling Lily several more times with no response. “Am I to assume I’m right when I say you are still in town and have some sort of tracker hooked up somewhere on her?”

“You would assume correctly. There was no way we would have ever left Lily out here alone, and we’re tracking her right now. Got a call from my tech guy telling me she left the house and when I didn't get a text that she was going somewhere we became concerned. She's headed out on I-90 towards the warehouse district.”

“I know we don't see eye to eye where she's concerned but I think we both have protecting her life in common so I would appreciate it if you’d keep me up to date on her whereabouts. I can have my men and myself back you up just in case this is Gustavo, or Camilla we’re dealing with here.”

Staying silent for a moment I finally spoke. “All right, but we’re taking the lead on this.”

“That’s fine, I’m going to call her father, so he's made aware of what's going on,” he said, disconnecting the call.

I looked over to Brice. “Ever swim with the fishes?”

“Well, I swam with dolphins at sea world once.”

“That doesn’t sound so bad.” I told him with a sarcastic laugh.

As we drove along, I watched as the image moved on my phone. “No wonder Lily didn't want to come back to this world when we found out who she was, I mean look at everything that's happened to her since discovering who her family is. And all for what? Power? Prestige? Biggest dick competition?”

“It's a fucked-up world this family crime business, I don't know how she made it as far as she did in this life with them and who they are. I can't even fathom all the shit she's seen over the years, though when I think about how protective her father is I'm sure he's done his best to keep it away from her, but still she's not deaf, dumb, or blind.”
