CHAPTER

Keira

After Luciano smackedme around, telling me that he was teaching me a lesson about mouthing off, he shoved me into a bedroom with no windows and slammed the door behind me.

And I let the tears fall.

I sat down on the bed, holding my head in my hands, crying, but them I began hearing a whimpering sound that didn't belong to me. Sniffling back my tears, I scanned my eyes around the room to see who it was coming from, and then I found her. In the corner of the room there was a small dark-haired girl who had wedged herself up against the wall with her knees pulled up close to her body, her face buried in them. It was like she thought if she couldn't see me or anyone else then we couldn't see her.

Mind games.

Just like I said, it was a necessary thing in this type of situation.

Trying not to frighten her any more than she already was, I calmly and quietly called out to her. "Hello? Are you okay?" Even though I spoke the words as quietly as possible she still jumped at the sound of my voice. Getting up off the bed, I circled around to the other side and sat back down now facing her. "My name is Keira, what's yours?" I asked, hoping to get her to talk to me. Maybe she knew something.

She didn't move an inch or reply, so I stood up to move closer. After taking only two steps, she snapped her head up and held her hands out in a defensive manner like she thought I was going to hit her. "P-please d-don't."

Stopping cold in my tracks, I moved to go back to the bed, not wanting to frighten her any further. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. What's your name?" I asked as I watched her hands lower back down and wrap tightly around her legs.

"I-I d-don't know," she answered in a shaky voice, looking up at me.

She was a very stunning girl. Her eyes were the lightest color of pale green, contrasted with her long dark hair and tan skin they almost look like they glowed. "You don't know your name?"

Shaking her head, she said in a small voice. "No," looking at me, she asked. "Do you live here?"

"No, I was taken. How long have you been here?"

She looked down again. "I don't know, a few days maybe? They keep me locked inside this room a lot. But I'd rather be in here than with them out there."

"Can't say I don't agree with you on that one," I rubbed my face.

"They hurt you," she stated, getting up to walk towards me. "Are you okay?"

"I'm okay. Luciano didn't like my questions too much I guess," I let out a tearful chuckle. She sat down cautiously next to me on the bed. "So, can I ask you why you don’t know your name? Are you having problems remembering just that or more?"

"Everything is a blank slate to me. I don't remember who I am, where I'm from or who I belong to. I don’t even recognize myself in the mirror. It's like I just woke up and have no clue about anything that has to do with me or my past."

"Really? Did they hit you on your head or something? That could have caused it."

She rubbed her head. "I don't think so. I had a headache when I woke up, but I don't feel any sore spots or bumps."

"I wonder if...." Before I could get the rest of my words out, the lock outside the door started to rattle right before it was shoved open, that Armando guy and another man filling the doorway. Hearing movement next to me, I turned just in time to see the girl fly from the bed and bury herself back in the corner like she had been before.

"Time to get that authentication, princess," Armando said, walking into the room towards me, causing the fear that ran through my body to cement me to the bed, unable to move. But it wasn’t me they were here for; it was the other girl. Grabbing a hold of her, he tried to pull her up to her feet, but she fought back, biting, kicking, and scratching him.

"Leave her alone!" I yelled, getting off the bed to run over to where they were struggling to try and help her, but I held back by my hair and yanked down onto the bed before the other man was on top of me, holding me down.

"Just where do think your going, sweetheart?" he asked, leaning down and running his tongue up the side of my face. "Mm, you taste like sunshine." My stomach rolled with nausea from his touch. After Armando took the screaming girl from the room, the other man got off me, sending me scurrying across the bed as far away from him as I could get. "See you soon, sunshine," he winked with a leer before walking out the door and locking it behind him.

Three hours must have passed by before I heard the lock rattle on the other side of the door again, causing me to stand up, ready to fight if needed. The door opens and the girl who was with me before was shoved into the room and onto the floor just before the door slammed shut once again. Walking over to her, I tried to help her up, but she jerked away from my touch. "No! Don't touch me!"

"It's just me, Keira." I assured her, kneeling down. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"

Letting out a sob, she began to cry uncontrollably, so I sat down onto the floor next to her to try and comfort her. Suddenly she surprised me by wrapping her arms around me and pulling me in for a tight hug as she continued to cry her eyes out.

After we sat there, holding each other for a few moments, her tears finally started to subside. "I... it... w-was au... awful!"

Trying to get the hair away from her face, I asked. "What did they do to you?"

"They... they had a doctor check me out to verify that I was... that I was... a virgin," she barely got out before breaking down again. Knowing the kind of money these sickos were willing to hand over for the chance at buying a virgin, they would of course demand to have medical proof that she was in fact pure. Pure until they broke her that is. As the time slowly passed by neither one of us moved from our spot on the floor and all I kept thinking was; please let Porter and Vance find us before we both disappeared into a nightmare existence of slavery.
