“Did you record Joe saying that?” her mother asked.

“No. I didn’t think to do that, but he wouldn’t know because that is probably something he’d do. And now maybe he’ll watch his step.”

“Or come up with some other stupid amendment,” Jax said, coming into the kitchen. “What happened?”

“What did you hear?” she asked.

“Just the end of it,” Jax said. “Don’t worry, Eli has my phone in the living room. So Jeff forgot to tell you and then tried to say that you wouldn’t leave Eli for his time today?”

“Something like that,” she said, filling him in on it all.

“Ask Trent what you should do,” Jax said.

“Why do I need to do that?” she asked, throwing her hands in the air. “I’ve got an attorney and I didn’t do anything wrong. Jeff did. End of story. And if he tries to make another amendment, I’m going to use this as an example of him not following things. I handled it well and I’m not sure why no one thinks I can deal with this.”

She walked out of the kitchen and went to see Eli. She needed to calm down and staying in the kitchen with them wasn’t going to allow her to do that.

Waited Long Enough

“What is going on with you?” Jonah asked him at the end of dinner on Thanksgiving.

“What do you mean?” Trent asked.

“You’ve been quiet all day long. That isn’t like you. Even Mom was wondering if you’re sick or not,” Raina said.

His parents were in the kitchen cleaning up. They were out of earshot and now was his time to tell them what was going on.

He’d waited long enough in his eyes.

“Get closer so I’m not talking too loud,” he said.

Raina and Cody looked at each other and scooted over to the couch. Jonah stayed in his chair next to him and Megan got up and came over and sat on the floor so she was on the other side of Jonah.

“What’s going on?” Raina asked.

“I’m dating someone.”

“Roni?” Megan asked. He watched as his sister and Megan looked at each other.

“How do you know?” he asked. It’s not as if he’d gotten any names out of the Fierces lately. They hadn’t even been around all that much either, which was allowing him and Roni to stay under the radar for the past three months.

“We all know,” Raina said. “Or we’ve been guessing. Ryder said he figured it out when he and Drake stopped at the building months ago. But no one has said much lately.”

“There is just so much going on with Chloe having the baby and the work on the other building. We are all swamped,” Megan said.

“I figured that was happening,” Trent said. “And yes, it’s Roni.”

“Everyone is going to brag,” Jonah said. “It’s never-ending.”

“Don’t say anything,” he said. “I don’t want Mom and Dad to know just yet.”

“Because your mother will tell Diane?” Cody asked.

“Yes. You guys don’t know Roni as I do. We need some time. Let it play out.”

“I sense another Royce and Chloe situation here,” Raina said. “It’s going to be interesting when we go to Diane’s in a bit.”
