“The bad news for us is they’ve been dating for three months and decided to let us know last night.”

Jolene laughed on the other end. “It’s not the first couple that has been dating and finally decided to let you know. My family has been doing it to me lately too.”

“I’m almost coming to expect it. I thought for sure we had a leg up by having Janine on our side, but we all got fooled. Though everyone knows, Eli doesn’t, so we have to be careful in front of him.”

“It’s got to be hard with a kid,” Jolene said.

“Yes. I don’t know how long they will keep it from him, but for now, we can ease back there.”

“What about the other one you’re working on? Gabe and Elise?” Jolene asked.

“Nothing. Grant and Garrett talked to both Richard Kennedy and Jim McCarthy last night. I talked to Stacy McCarthy. She’d love nothing more than to see Gabe settled down as her oldest, but she can’t figure out what it is about Elise and Gabe that are like opposite ends of a magnet.”

“At least you are only working on one for the most part,” Jolene said.

“That is one positive part. How about you? With Sawyer and Faith engaged you’ve got to have your head in someone else’s business. All your blood relatives are done.”

“They are,” Jolene said. “I’ve got the next one lined up. One I’ve had my sight on for a while and it’s time to give them a push.”

“Well?” she asked. “Who is it?”

“Hope’s sister, Eve. You know she moved here over a year ago. I’ve been thinking about someone for her. Kept telling myself I was nuts but then realized, nope, I’m not.”

“Your children would tell you that you’re nuts,” she said, laughing.

“No more than yours. But I’m ready to move on this now,” Jolene said. “With any luck, no one will see this coming.”

Diane grinned. “We keep telling ourselves those things, but in the end we end up surprised.”

“We’ll see about that,” Jolene said. “I’ll let you go relax now.”

“Thanks. Talk to you soon,” she said and hung up.

“Did she bust your butt because we didn’t know about Roni and Trent?”

“Not really. She reminded me that it’s happening to her too. As for Gabe and Elise, I’m not so sure about this one. Do you think we are way off base here?”

“No,” Grant said. “Even their fathers said something is underlying their tension and we all just need to figure it out. I think it’s a perfect match. It’s getting Elise to see it. Gabe seems pretty open to anything.”

“I’m not sure he’s open as much as he doesn’t seem to have the animosity that Elise does.”

“I did notice that he almost riles her up on purpose with a grin on his face. Hopefully those two figure it out. What does Jolene have up her sleeve? Or I should askwhoshe has up it?”

“Hope’s sister, Eve. She didn’t say with whom. She probably doesn’t even know.”

“Are you kidding me?” Grant said. “Jolene most likely has a sheet of everyone paired up locked away and just tells us she is figuring it out.”

Diane started to laugh with her husband. “I’m sure you’re right. Maybe we should do the same.”

“How about another time,” Grant said. “For now, let’s just relax on this couch and know our work is done for the night.”

“For the night,” she said. “Tomorrow is another day.”

“Tomorrow,” he said.
