“From what I have seen they are too much alike. Both of them want fun without commitment. I stand with them. Just because you and Callie found your happily ever after it doesn’t mean the rest of us are convinced it’s right for us.”

“So cynical, Flynn. To be honest, I still don’t know how I convinced Callie either. Just know when you get something good hold on tight.”

“Funny someone else said something like that to me recently.”

“Did you take their advice?”

“Too late. I had let them slip through my fingers already.” That was more than I wanted to say.

“Sorry, man. You snooze, you lose. Come to the party and bring your bathers. Oh, my cousin Avery is going to be there too. She is here with her business partner.”

“Please, what did I just say? No matchmaking. I know what Callie is like trying to pair people up. Just remind her I’m a lost cause and happy to stay that way.”

“I will, but she is a stubborn woman. Then again, I don’t know if she would want you messing with the family. I would have to kill you. Plus, my cousin Avery can be a stubborn cuss.”

“Must run in the family and point taken. I do not want to get on the wrong side of Callie or you.”

I headed home with the notes and lines for tomorrow’s scene. I was going to have to hold the gateway from the other world closed by killing the monster trying to get through. I had been in this business a while, yet I still found it amazing when I saw the end result with the special effects. My cellphone pinged. It was my agent, David.

“Hi, what wonderful news do you have for your favorite client?” I could picture him shaking his head on the other end.

“You are all my favorite clients and don’t tell anyone otherwise. However, I do have good news. The film that we were talking about based in Iceland. If you can come into the office tomorrow, we can sign the contract. They still plan on filming for three months in the fall.”

“Sounds great to me. The filming at the studio should be done by four. I can pop in on the way home.”

“Just do me a favor and make sure that you continue to stay out of trouble.”

“I’ll try.” Life was starting to look up. For some reason, I didn’t feel as excited as I should.

FOURTEEN

FLYNN

The week had gone well at work and with the new contract. Now I was on my way to the party at Declan and Callie's. If it ended early, I would head into town with Jack. I needed to get myself back to my womanizing ways, but it seemed to have lost its sheen at the moment. I didn’t like the idea of having sex with someone else but thinking of Emmy. Hell, I would not want someone thinking of some other guy when she was with me.

There were cars a plenty out the front of Declan’s house, but today I had decided to get a taxi. If I was going out later with Jack, I would be in no fit state to drive home. I hugged Declan as I walked in and saw Callie was over with the kids and Paula. The girls were in pretty dresses and their older stepbrother, Tommy was running around with Declan’s dog, Duke following him. The two were inseparable these days. Maybe I would get a dog. Then I was traveling too much, and it wouldn’t be fair. I always wanted one as a kid.

“Come and grab a beer. I even got some imported from Australia.”

“I like your Australian beer. I had some while I was down there. When you come to Ireland, I’ll treat you to some Guinness.”

“I am doing one of my famous BBQs later. The steak will melt in your mouth, and the sauce is to die for.”

“Come on, man. You look good, you are nice, and you cook. No wonder the rest of us guys never got a look in.”

“This is all I can cook so you are safe.”

I went over and chatted with Jack who was annoying Sasha as usual.

“I have tickets to the band, Epic. I heard you like them and thought we could go together.”

Sasha smiled at Jack. “I already have tickets; I know the drummer. We go way back, but that is so sweet of you.” She carried on setting up her display of cupcakes. They looked incredible with different colored frosting and decorations of chocolates and edible flowers. I was going to stack the weight on with the food here this afternoon. I did the rounds making conversation. Jack came and sat next to me out by the pool.

“So, are you still going to see the band?” I asked.

“No way am I going to watch her making out with the drummer. Look, it doesn’t matter. I’ll wear her down eventually.” Jack took a swig of his beer.

“You keep telling yourself that. So, where’s the cousin of yours I have heard about?”
