“Your woman’s just giving you a taste of your own medicine,” Mouse added.

“Exactly.” Lila beamed at Christian. “We love each other, that means we always have each other’s backs, no matter what.”

“Amen,” Arrow said.

“We’re all a team, and we look out for each other,” Bear added.

Lila’s brow furrowed as something occurred to her. Alpha Team weren’t the only ones who watched out for one another. “Where’s Aleksei?”

“Who’s Aleksei?” Christian asked.

“Why does that name sound so familiar?” Domino asked. Then almost immediately his eyes widened. “Aleksei was Kristoff’s best friend.”

“Now he’s Zara’s personal bodyguard,” she said softly, a chill settling in as she thought of the last time she’d seen the man.

“He hurt you,” Christian growled.

There was no use lying about it. “He … raped me. In the shed before Zara called you. He had some remote, I think it was for some toy … sex toy … that Zara was wearing because she started to moan like she was … turned on … and then she came, you know … orgasmed.” Saying this stuff in front of a team of ultra-tough warriors was embarrassing, but she needed them to know how sure she was. “If Zara is here then Aleksei won’t be far away.”

The change in the men was instantaneous. They went from mostly calm and relaxed to focused and prepared.

Before any of them could react, the hospital door opened.

A man dressed in scrubs stepped in.

His eyes roamed the room, taking in the men with guns and the body lying on the floor, but instead of panic flaring in his dark eyes, there was anger.

“Ty ubil yeye. Yy umresh’,” he yelled in what Lila assumed was Russian. The man reached for the waistband of his pants, hidden beneath his top, and pulled out a weapon.

A weapon he never got a chance to fire.

Christian turned, keeping her tight against his chest. One of the guys fired before Aleksei got a chance to.

She heard the sound of the body hitting the floor.

Even though she knew it was one of the bad guys, one she had every reason to want dead, she still flinched at the sound.

So much death.

So much pain.

“It’s like a damn horror movie,” Arrow muttered. “Every time you think it’s over it’s not.”

“It’s over now,” Bear said.

“Damn straight,” Mouse added.

Christian turned and nodded at Domino. “Thanks again, man.”

Domino’s dark eyes were turbulent, and she assumed he had been the one to kill Aleksei. “You’re welcome.”

Reaching out, she touched Domino’s shoulder. He would never know just how much his ending the lives of Zara and Aleksei meant to her, but she hated that he’d been forced to take their lives in part for her. “Thank you,” she whispered.

His gaze softened. “You’re welcome. Now maybe you, Julia, and all of us can get some peace.”

“And rest,” Eagle Oswald added. “I want you back in bed,” he said, pointing to her.

“You too,” he said to Christian. “We’re heading home tomorrow morning, and it’s going to take me most of the night to get this mess sorted. So, all of you get some rest. Good job. All of you.” Eagle’s blue eyes met hers, and she saw respect and admiration in them.
