Gauntlet moved me around and led me to his bike. I stared at Arlo and Mr Cask.

“You believed that spoiled, selfish, nasty bitch over me who’d you known since I was little. You let me get locked up for a crime I didn’t commit. The truth is going to come out, and it will be all over the newspapers. And believe me; I won’t hold back on how you treated me. The victim, like Abbi. You don’t even deserve to mourn her,” I hissed. I slung my leg over Gauntlet’s bike and cuddled up to him.

Gauntlet revved his bike, shot a look of disgust over his shoulder, and we roared away.

“Gauntlet! Have you seen the papers?” I cried as I raced into the clubhouse. It was two days after the drama, and we’d been waiting on tenterhooks. Tonio was coming in today to explain what had happened.

“No?” he asked, walking toward me from the bar.

“It’s all over them,” I said, waving two about.

“What is?” Gauntlet questioned as he tried to capture my hands.

“The Wellsprings and Abbi’s cover-up!”

“Finally,” Gauntlet hissed and hauled me into him and kissed me silly.

I settled down under his ministrations as he blew my mind and left me dazed. While I was, Gauntlet grabbed the papers and saw what had me so happy. Headlines blazed my innocence and the plot by the Wellsprings to protect Cordelia. He was reading when Tonio arrived and nodded to us all.

“Well?” I cried excitedly.

“Cordelia and both her parents have been charged with everything. Cordelia completely broke down under questioning and admitted it all but blamed her father. According to her, she was threatened to go along with the story.”

“Once a victim, always a victim. She’s good at that!” I snorted.

“The lawyer has been arrested, and so have several other people. Her parents have both been charged and, as a flight risk, denied bail, same as Cordelia. The judge has already levied another charge of attempting to bribe a federal judge and had to remove himself from the case. Mr Wellspring sent someone with an offer of a bribe. The judge reported this and passed it over. He’ll now be a witness,” Tonio stated.

“Is it over?” I asked.

“You’ll have to attend court and also give a victim statement. But we have all three bang to rights. Mr Wellspring is trying to make a deal, but the DA isn’t biting. He’s looking forward to this one,” Tonio answered.

“You said all three. What about Jax?” I questioned.

“He had no idea, and neither did the Casks. They’ve been cleared of all charges.”

“So why did Jax marry her?” I sought, confused. I’d been certain he was a part of it.

“He says he was missing you and just fell into it.”

“I call bullshit,” Gauntlet mumbled.

“Yeah, me too,” I agreed. “More like he enjoyed the wealth and power that came with marrying Cordelia. I don’t think Jax thought of me at all except to send that hate mail.”

“Well, his loss is my gain, babe,” Gauntlet said, drawing me in close.

“It most certainly is. What about my innocence?” I asked Tonio.

“The judge who removed himself has handed everything over to the one who replaced him. It’ll be handled by him and the courts now. You will have to testify, Amberlea. But this time, you’re not on trial. Well, not until the Wellspring’s lawyer starts the defence, but even so, the evidence that was collected is rock solid,” Tonio stated.

“Thank you for this. It’s a relief,” I admitted.

“Go live your life and make it happy. There’s a lot of shit swirling around, but take joy where you can,” Tonio said. Sage words from the cop.

I looked up at Gauntlet and, with a grin, threw myself at him. He swirled me around and placed me on my feet before kissing me again.
