Hannah looks...hurt, maybe. "How long have you been together?"

Colleen answers before either of us can. "Since Grams fell. So five, almost six months?"

I mean, not technically. We've only officially been together since graduation. So, two months?

"I thought you lived in Boulder?" Hannah says to Kyle, her pretty face scrunched in confusion.

"Yeah, Jenny lives with me," he answers. "I didn't realize you had moved back."

Hannah twirls a strand of sleek blond hair between her fingers. "I haven't. I'm just here visiting my parents before school starts."

"Still at Texas A&M?"

She gives him a breathtaking smile. "You remembered."

I resist the urge to roll my eyes. Or gag myself.

Colleen crosses her arms over her chest. "I forgot you guys dated in high school."

Hannah sighs nostalgically. "Best time of my life."

Kyle jerks his head back, catching on to her blatant, still very real feelings. His hand tightens in mine.

"Do you remember that time on my parents’ boat?" Hannah coyly bites her bottom lip.

Colleen rolls her eyes. "Come on, Hannah, I see an open table. Let's grab a few drinks and catch up."

Never, in my life, have I been so thankful to be in Colleen's presence. I offer her a grateful shrug.

Hannah exhales before touching Kyle's arm one last time. "It was really good to see you."

"You too," he returns.

She doesn't say anything to me as she loops her arm with Colleen's and walks off, but not before turning back around and glancing at Kyle wistfully.

"So, you did it with her on a boat, huh?" I raise my eyebrows at Kyle. I sound snarky and jealous and immature.

He runs a hand over his face, embarrassed. "Can we not talk about that?"

"Oh, I'm not the one who brought it up," I remind him before playfully shoving his shoulder.

He leans forward and kisses me before resting his forehead against mine. "You're the best I've ever had, Jenny. Even if you like to play with Pokémon cards."

I groan. "I'm never going to live that down, am I?"

Kyle shakes his head slowly, absentmindedly. "It's one of the things I love most about you."

"My Pokémon collection?"

"No," he chuckles, "that while all the other girls were putting on lip gloss and trying to get my attention in their short skirts, you were too busy geeking out over something you loved to give me the time of day."

My heart is all mushy and fluttery and soft. "You have to stop saying stuff like that."

"Like what?"

Shelly sets down a crapload of pizza boxes in front of us, breaking our conversation. "It's on the house," she says as she rounds the bar, hands Kyle the hundred-dollar bill and gives him a hug. "We're praying for your family. If you need anything, call me."

Once the pizzas are loaded in Kyle's trunk, he opens the passenger-side door for me and helps me in. His hand resting on my waist sends all kinds of sparks and jolts and flashes to my chest. I slide my legs into the car and look up at him.
